I still have no shame in saying I like KOTCS so I would love to see them give it another go. I'd also like them to do it just in hopes of "ending on a high note" if they can churn out one that won't divide people so much. I wonder if KOTCS will go down to be more respected over time somehow. Any of you that hate it probably think that sounds dumb, but I mean, my understanding is that a lot of people didn't dig Temple of Doom but it's definitely warmed up with more support over the years. Me, I love that one.
My brother (whom I made up) knew a guy with a brother that had a cousin who's best friend's brother's dad bought one for the Toys for Toys bin in Christmas 84. They're out there, man My god. Wheezin the ju-uuuuiiiiiice in pristine closeup to a John Williams score. It'd be beautiful.
I liked Indy 4, minus the "interdimensional travelers". Seriously, just calling them aliens would've been better. Most people can believe aliens and ghosts and shit, but that... crap is just too unreal.
What? Indiana Jones had dignity? It was always a silly action/adventure franchise. Trying to say it had dignity is like saying bubblegum was a revolution in culinary delight. The problem was that the fans glorified it and turned into something it wasn't. So yes, if Indy 5 is a silly, enjoyable adventure flick, all the power to it.
Again, I see no downside to this. It'll either be really good, or the wackiest debacle ever to hit film. Either way, I'm game.
I'm with you on the "it was always crazy goofy fun and 4 fits in" sentiment but I would say the excellent execution of the films in pretty much every regard certainly gave them plenty of dignity, the first especially
CGI gofers and abysmal bluescreen work was the piss icing on top of the shit cake that is Indy 4. OK GUYS I'M BEING A BIT HARSH but you get my point. I did like the milk bar scene.
Indy 5 ? ok but please without Shia Le-puke... Indy 4 was crap and it really downgraded the series...
I'm with you guys. Indiana Jones was always over the top. I really don't see where KOTCS altered the franchise.
I like Kingdom. They tried something different and I can respect that. It is much, much better than the crappy Temple of Doom prequel.
Both had good and bad moments. Given the time frame that Indy 4 was in, aliens fit pretty well... it is just that Indy doesn't fit with Aliens...
IMO the theme for Indy 4 didn't fit with the overall theme of the franchise. As up to that chapter, the Indy mythos was heavily into "religion". For example, Part 1 and 3 was with Judahism (spelling) and Christianity respectively and Part 2 dealt with the an Indian religion.
Well It wasn't particularly jarring if you also have read the Novels and Comics. One of the Novels was all about a Unicorns Horn.. and another a Witches coven..the comics had Atlantis and some other things.. and one even had a lost Hidden (by magic) City of Celts living in the Amazon... but several of them also had other Religious objects.. Noah's Ark, The Staff of Aaron, to name but a few.. The Plot of Indiana Jones wasn't what made it bad.. neither was it the actors performances.. what made it bad was the Monkey with the comb and the swinging through trees on vines... not to mention some really dodgy CG effects.. Basically they made the first 3 with no CG.. they should have made 4 with no CG.. if it couldn't be done with models or Matte Paintings or stop motion it shouldn't have been done. That was the same mistake they made with the Starwars prequels. Just because your able to do these things with CG.. when trying to make new installments of old franchise.. its best to move at the same speed as the old Franchise.. as the saying goes.. an army moves at the speed of its slowest Member..
