That's tough. Both are major butt kissers. Ha. I might give the edge to Soundwave since he would always say "As you command, Megatron." He also didn't leave Megatron to die in TFTM and carried him off of the battlefield. Then again, once Megatron was left for dead by Starscream, Soundwave was fighting Devastator and everyone else over who would lead the Decepticons. If it were the comic, it would be easy since Shockwave turned on Megs. However, the cartoon could go either way.

Yeah dude i know what your saying but i would have to go with soundwave because you dont really get to know much about shockwave because hes on cybertron almost always but i do remember in one episode when starscream told shockwave that he was going to blow up the earth when megatron was on it when he was on cybertron but shockwave said he wouldnt let starscream do that and tried to stop starscream

On one hand you have Soundwave, who is absolutely passionless and carries no secondary objective other than doing what Megatron tells him to do. On the other hand you have Shockwave, who remained on Cybertron for 40000 years in absence of Megatron, and throughout those 40000 years kept his word that Cybertron would remain as he left it. If that's not dedication I dunno what is. Overall it's really close but I think I have to go with Soundwave.

@ khopson I'm sure Shockwave would've done the same thing in that situation after realizing he's the only logical choice.

I'll go with Shockwave. Soundwave didn't try to stop Megatron from being dumped into space like so much garbage.

Look, much as I think Soundwave's pretty loyal, he didn't ensure things were literally as Megatron left them on Cybertron (even to the point of leaving enemy laboratories undisturbed), for four million years. That's dedication.

Well, Soundwave was beside big M throughout the first 2 seasons, but who knows what would have happened if Shockwave were aboard A-train that fateful night...

Soundwave I say, even after Megatron was beat by prime in the movie and Starscream gave him the boot he still would not leave him. if I was in charge Soundwave is the guy I know always has my back.

Megatron considered Soundwave a confidant and always relied on him. Megs never even got mad at or even threatened Soundwave. The one rare exception was in WFC. In the Headmasters series, Galvatron did get upset when Soundwave got blown to bits.

They're both so loyal and this is a real tough one but i think SW's actions in the film make Shockwave more loyal.

Soundwave would have protected Megatron alone at any cost, that scenes doesn't fit too well.To solve Astrotrain's problem, Soundwave,if he could,he would have jettisoned Starscream and even few other ones(with the other already weakened) , in place of Megatron :lol  .
Perhaps if writers would have wanted to get rid of SD too,in those moments he would have tried to defend Megatron ,just to be jettisoned with them.He would have met his end(at least, before encountering Unicron), but for defending his leader .

Anyway I'm very glad that he survived and celebrated Galvatron :) ,I think his behaviour in that scene of the movie was a way to keep him in the shuttle ,without thinking too much.

Bac in topic:In the cartoon both Shockwave and SD were both absolutely loyal, difficult say who is more.

Gotta go with Shockwave, although it's close. Obviously, the whole deal with Soundwave not stopping Megatron getting thrown out of Astrotrain was because of how the direction of the movie was going to then turn him into Galvatron (BUY THE NEW TOY, KIDS!) and so was most likely an overlooked detail, but it is cannon.

Actually, in what I think were deleted scenes scripted for the movie, there was a scene with Shockwave in a tower and calling for help or something before Unicron's hand comes in and smashes it, implying he died anyway.

    Soundwave...everything else is speculatory.

As far as loyalties go, Matt Teiger broke it down the best.

    Soundwave is for Megatron
    Shockwave is for Cybertron
    Starscream is for Starscream
