I won this auction 2 months ago for over 400 US bucks.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=270157672783&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=017

Seller told me he was the first owner and conviced me it was MISB.

Since I'm trying to AFA all G1 Primes, I had to win this auction.

As soon as I got the package, I didnt open it but shipped it out to AFA who charge me 135.00 US dollars to AFA plus i had to ship it to them for 20.79.

I got a email from UPS stating my package will arrive today from AFA.
As soon as I open the box I notice a white sheet :(

    REFUSAL REPORT!!!!:throw
    I was shocked!
    The Box was double taped!!!
AFA still sealed the Toy in their case with no grade on the toy.

I wasted over 500 bucks for nothing.
I email seller asking for full refund and file a ebay report.

    Now i wait..........MAD!!:mad

Sorry it didn't work out for you and I can't guess why they didn't grade it, but my theory is that it's considered a foreign toy, which AFA won't grade:

    http://www.toygrader.com/faq.aspx#foreign:

    General AFA Questions
Answers to What We Grade Questions

    Do you grade foreign figures?
At this time we do grade Canadian figures and Tri-logo Star Wars. We may be able to grade certain foreign figures but please contact us.

Also, why did you file an ebay report and ask for a refund? The seller did nothing wrong and it's not his fault for AFA refusing your toy.

I feel for you and I'm not trying to be an ass here but you didn't read the AFA rules and now you're mad at the ebay seller and AFA!?!?! That makes no sense.

    That stinks something serious.
Since hindsight is always 20/20, I would have inspected the item before sending it to AFA. Especially because it was acquired through Ebay.

Is there a color breakage line down the front flap hinge corners?
That would tell you definitively if it has actually been opened.

what did the refusal report say? i have a hard time believing it was because it was spanish box. if they didnt grade foreign toys, they wouldnt grade japanese tf's.

AFA doesn't grade figures that are double taped. Not for nothing, but you should have probably checked the package right after you received it before shipping it out to AFA.

From what I've observed, AFA will grade all foreign toys. That FAQ section probably needs to be updated.

Well, regardless of the double tape that's no reason to be mad at the seller. The very first sentence of the auction states: "Up for auction is a vintage Transformers Optimus Prime action figure, MIB, from 1990" and the title of the auction says MIB - there's no mention of MISB. He does say there is factory tape on it but that should have thrown up a flag - if it's still factory sealed then why is it listed as MIB?

Don't get me wrong here - I can appreciate your anger, but asking the seller for a refund and filing an ebay report is probably a fruitless effort. I just think your anger is misplaced.

That sucks man, but he might have also thought it was correctly sealed. If you missed the double tape then he may have too. Although looking at the pic of the left side of the box it does obviously look double taped. Still its a very nice Prime to have even if it isn't graded.

I'm not trying to give you a hard time... yet there were multiple steps you could have taken to avoid being "out" $500.

I would have tried to make 1000% sure what I was buying. Easy to say, hard to practice. If I had any doubt in my mind I wasn't going to get what I thought the item was.... I would have not bid.

    1. Here's a bad sign, the sellers description uses the term "MIB" and "sealed" but never "MISB" which I usually take to be the "holiest of holy." And no, I don't want to open a holy war about MISB vs. MIB. There is nothing fun down that road.

    2. You should have at least looked at it when you received it. As soon as I get a package I check it to make sure it's contents are what the auction described.

This step should have stopped you from spending any more money on something that would not net you a gain. At the point you saw it was not what the seller described, you could have emailed the seller and made a case.

It is NOT his fault you trusted him. Maybe he didn't know specifically what you wanted in a true MISB toy.

Seller made it clear it was MISB and AFA gradable.

I"m looking at the box and its seems like its never been open and I dont see no double tape. Box really looks MISB.

open it up, since your not going to resell it, it just as good as a 90 or higher. believe me, AFA is over rated, its still a beautiful piece too. if your not going to resell it, then why worry about waht AFA thinks. if its mint to you, then its mint. thats the way I see it brother.

If you can open the case AFA put it in, and don't need it, can I have it? Been looking for a case to put my G1 Prime. It's not in good enough condition to grade though.

Thats hard to say since the condition you bought it in maybe be the same condition the seller bought it in. Hell, it could have been the toy store that resealed it. I just don't see your claim against the seller working out for you. Too many what ifs, esp for ebay and paypal.

    Ebay:
Actually back in the early 90ties when I got some Classic figures sometimes they were double taped because the first factory tape was broken. And we're talking case fresh examples out of the box to be put on the toys shelves.
But back then I didn't give it a thought at all. My Classic Inferno & Springer were double taped eventhough i got it out of a shippingbox at the store (I had asked them to reserve them figure for me when they recieved them).
