I'm sick and you're the Doctor.

So my son is just started preschool this past year and you know the deal they will be exposed to anything and everything and what not. Usually we luck out and miss whatever he bring home with him and catches. But this time he bought the Holy Hand Grenade of Colds and detonated it on the whole family.

I don't know if my immune system is just getting crappy or what but his had a God like plague of a cold. Coughing,Sneezing, High Fever, Sore throat, Ear aches, stuffy congested head and face, and running nose. Ya know all the type of stuff that is on the back of a Robitussin bottle but you only have one of the symptoms. And he has lovingly passed these on to me.

So I'm leaving my care up to you guys. Thought it'd be funny and amusing while I'm crashed out for just the next day or two hopefully. I don't believe in going to the doctor for a little cold unless your discharge starts turning colors.

So post any remedies or wonder over the counter drugs and I will be willing to try some of them. My health is in your hands. :lol

I'd say your problem is you have too much blood in your system. Leeches or some precision cutting will help with that. As a generality, Fire, and lots of it will often cure most maladies.

Try a Lemon-lime TheraFlutini with a NyQuil chaser.

NyQuil is your friend. Name brand. Liquid. Red or Green, doesn't matter. I used to get the off brand and never had much luck with it, but someone go tme the real stuff. WOW, made all the difference in the world. It's like Dr. Vicks' Patented Miracle Cure.

Best advice I can give is take several of those Vitamin C Defense tabs. They look like Halls cough drops and aren't too bad to eat. Every time I start to get sick I eat a couple of those and get well quickly. They really work!

    Wordness.

Even that doesn't predict bacterial vs. viral.

Though large kudos for not running to your MD (or DO) for a cold! :)

    Anywho:
    - lots of rest
    - lots of fluids
    - wash your hands
    - vaporizer or humidifier
    - warm saline nasal flushes (neti pot good, soft squeeze bottle better)
    - ibuprofen/naproxen/acetaminophen for aches and fever
    - +/- long-release dextromethorphan (Delsym) for cough
    - +/- decongestant nasal spray -- but only use for <=3 consecutive days to avoid rebound congestion when you discontinue
    - +/- vitamin C (so far studies have only shown shortening of cold symptom duration if one is already taking daily vitamin C before the cold begins)

Oh, and Airborne is crap before or during a cold.

    :)

I think part of the problem is grammar. It is "you're the doctor" not "your". It's not my doctor.

As far as remedies go, Nyquil and a lot of vitamin C.

    This thread is lulzworthy.

And I can't recommend NyQuil. It doesn't work for me, gives me a mighty nasty case of the shits and dry heaves, every time. :(

I'd actually vomit if possible, but by the time I've hit that point, I've already cleared my system out through the backdoor several times over, it ends up being that there's nothing left in my guys by the time I'm heading for the bucket. Still doesn't stop my stomach from trying the front door though...

NyQuil makes me wicked sick. Violently ill. Doesn't matter what color it is, whether it's brand name or generic, hell even DayQuil makes me extremely nauseous.

:(  NyQuil induced Hershey Squirts™ FTL.

Well, along with your Vit C and NyQuil, Echinacea Cold Care tea from Celestial Seasonings works really well on congestion and also boosts your immune system. I also usually take astragalus and goldenseal myself, but NyQuil is often necessary for sleeping.

Funny story - my ex-husband actually used to be so sensitive to alcohol, that the one time I made him take a quarter dose of NyQuil he laid on the bed singing for four hours straight. :lol

Sounds like your health is in recession. Maybe getting someone give your package a stimulus could help.

I missed one christmas with my family because i had a cold from hell (coulda been the Plague, it was that bad.)

i went to a drug store, dropped a large dime on NyQuil and spent 2 weeks unconscious. i woke up long enough to use the bathroom and sip more of the big Q.

all i know is that without it, those 2 weeks would have been unbearable.

NyQuil is the only thing I take, usually. Maybe it's the packaging. I don't know why.

I had a cold going on a couple weeks back, and as everyone has said, go NyQuil. Calms the system and makes you go to sleep.
