    16gb

Getting money from the 'rents. Tell me anything to think about (srsly) when making this purchase. Are there any deals? Should I stay away from a certain *insert thing that I don't know about here*.

    I'm pumped!

Got me a 8GB iPod Touch a few weeks ago and love it.

So yeah, go for that 16GB Touch.

make sure you get one with the most up to date firmware. You can get updates for free most of the time from the itunes store, but there are some that actually cost money when something major is added

Are you getting the 1st Gen or 2nd Gen? 1st Gen doesn't have the speakers and is a little bit thicker (but seriously, not that much of a difference). I would say go for the 1st Gen. If you were planning on getting the 2nd Gen, for the same price you can get a 32gb 1st Gen.

I have the 1st Gen 16GB iPod Touch and I love it. My niece has the 2nd Gen 8GB iTouch. Comparing the 2, the speakers are a nifty add-on but honestly, when you have the iPod playing, you either have earphones to listen to it on the go or have it docked on a speaker system. As for the thickness, there isn't that much of difference.

I'd say go for the 1st Gen 32GB iPod Touch if you were going to buy a 2nd Gen 16GB iPod Touch. More space for music, movies, photos & apps.

Does anyone know.... If I cancel my phone service on the Iphone, can I still use it as an Ipod Touch (ie. will Wifi still work on it?)

Smangerbot is right, you have to pay for the major updates on the touch and 3.0 is coming out later this summer.

Well, I guess it indirectly answers my question about a serviceless Iphone. I really doubt Apple would allow someone to update an Iphone free if there were no phone service attached to it, but I guess my question is, how would they know?

iTunes reads the IMEI number and runs it through AT&T to make sure there's still a service plan attached to it.

If you're not updating the phone though, yes, you can still use it as an iPod Touch. I haven't done iPhone support in a long, long time though so they may have changed that.
