I dunno why, but I've been watching this anime called Heroic Age, which people say its like a sci-fi retelling of Herculies and that's been making me watch some greek myth stuff. Also am tempted to raid my friends PS2 and play some God of War.

So what good movies are out there based on this stuff? I've seen Troy and 300 (dunno if that really counts) and a whole bunch of the Kevin Sorbo Hurculies movies, before it became a TV show. I havent seen Jason and the Argonauts yet, might give that a go.

well they are in the process of filming a remake of " Clash of the Titans ".. And rumor is they will be doing " The Odyssey " as well.. but whether it will be a sequel to ' Troy ' and star sean bean as Ulysses I'm not sure of..

All of the old Harryhausen movies are worth watching if only for the (At the time) cutting edge stop motion and edited effects shots.. The Skeletons in Jason and the Argonauts especially..

Might not be close enough to what you're looking for, but Mazinger Z was based veeeeerrry loosely on legends of Mycenae, Talos, and other generally Greek things. The remake, Shin Mazinger, has been a great show so far.

I like Disney's "Hercules" even though its very inaccurate when compared to the original mythology.

I love that movie. Obviously they couldn't stick to the original mythology, but it's fun finding all the references to it.

    Try these:

Clash of the Titans (1981 film)
can't go wrong with this one...

    Jason and the Argonauts (1963)
same as the above + Talos RULES!...

Jason and the Golden Fleece (2000)
worth a watch, but the old one is better IMO...

    The Odyssey (1997)
This one is great. I love it. It may be a Hallmark TV production, but it has good story, good action, great setting and Armand Assante kicked ass as Odysseus...

Also, it may suit you, may not. But "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou" is based on the Odyssey

Or, you know. You can pick up a book. I have a degree in Classical Civilization focused in Greek and highly recommend Juvenal.

If you're watching Heroic Age I'd also recommend Gigantic Formula, another mecha show with a Greek god theme going on.

As for actual movies, I'll reiterate the older Jason and the Argonauts and Clash of the Titans as well as that newer version of the Oddysey with Armand Assante (was decent for what it was). Whatever you do, don't watch Troy...it's a terrible adaptation of the Illiad.

That is a great suggestion and nothing beats the orignal stuff, but I just don't have it in me to read the books and prefer a movie output for the stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions by the way everyone.

So if i am reading James Joyce's Ulysses and picking my nose, someone might say i am being Juvenal?
    :dunce
sorry, just had to do a Juvenal/Juvenile joke.

    Clash of the Titans, FTW.
