Just goes to show you how little they care and how little they actually put into the characters.

They say this every time - it is just marketing. True or not, they certainly could make it a lot easier if they toned down the over-detailed and completely unfaithful design style. Not to mention the fact the new liquid transformations which are really unnecessary.

I hope, if I ever end up with a job in post production, that my boss never makes the unfortunate mistake of getting a character's name wrong, as some fans will immediately discredit the long hours my coworkers and I spent working on the movie and claim we don't care about our work.

They were necessary. Partly to save money, and partly to give the other bots something special.

I'll happily take few on-screen transformations and even lazy transformations if it means more character interaction with the bots.
Let's be honest, Waffles. If you have a job attached to the Transformers brand, it will happen.

It's the author of the article who keeps mixing up the characters, not the ILM guy.

Any brand with a fanbase, really :/

    Edit:
I need to amend my remark:

I hope, if I ever end up with a job in post production, that the author writing the article about the interview my boss gave never makes the unfortunate mistake of getting a character's name wrong, as some fans will immediately discredit the long hours my coworkers and I spent working on the movie and claim we don't care about our work.

    There we go.

I'm kind of wondering if they're talking about Drift or Crosshairs. They keep saying he's a triple changer but also say that he turns into a corvette... but they don't mention the trenchcoat either, which seems like it would also be hard to animate and rig and would be worth mentioning.

Orange. Or give him a sword and keep the blue.

Also I find this interesting considering they didn't have to figure out transformations of half of the characters.

I thinks this is most telling about the Drift/Crosshairs confusion:
Amusingly, if Crosshairs actually was the triple changer, this statement is in fact correct to a point as a helicopter TF named Crosshairs does exist. Only it's both a mini-con and Decepticon aligned, and no version of Crosshairs prior to the AoE one follow the same general details I.E. Optimus window bra anyway, including the DOTM one.

Fun fact aside, it's more likely the article writer simply got Drift and Crosshairs confused, looked up who the triple changer was, saw G1 Springer since Drift is basically the AoE version of him, and figured the green color on the toys meant Crosshairs was the triple changer.

Also, I call BS on whoever actually was "the most difficult" because that's wrong anyway since they didn't actually melt ILM's computers like DOTM's giant mechanical worm did.

    Thanks

And agreed- wasn't there an interview earlier where they discussed what was hardest? And they were talking about how they had successfully avoided the CGI pitfalls that (I think, DigitalDomain?) faced in ROTF?

    * I think it mentioned DigitalDomain but can't really remember.

Too bad in most movie critics eyes, AOE was just 2 hours and 45 minutes of explosions & loud noises. Few seemed to care about visual effects.

I think this is just a case of Ms. Acuna getting her notes mixed up/confused when she was conducting the interview; she probably never even saw the movie herself. This then shows when she later went to try to construct the article from what she wrote.

LOL why WOULD they care what the characters names were? Unless they're fans themselves of course...but their job is to sit there and create renders of robots for a movie. Nothing more, nothing less. I mean shit, ask a non Transformers fan who the characters were in the movie. I'd be willing to bet VERY few would be able to identify any of the Autobots outside of Optimus and Bumblebee.
