No, only to protect them from day light. I would be afraid of the colors to change

Use LED lighting. It's constant harsh light u need to worry about

That is what I am worried about! I prefer the sun light than LED lighting.

It's usually UV light, heat, and oxygen that yellow the plastics. LED lighting tends to warm the boxes less.

That is a great input. I will consider it then.

For what it is worth, most modern lighting systems in cabinets are LED. If you find one that is either halogen or incandescent, it's not really going to be a good fit with your collection long term. LEDs are a superior system, now that they have the light warmth issue figured out, provided you don't need a dimmer switch on the setup.

I was more thinking of a simple shelf without any lighting system but I must admit that would be a nice installation.

It's being played at very reasonable volumes, and it seems to coincidentally be the one nearest it. I'm moving house this weekend so I'll try to put that one furthest from the speakers! I take it plastic shims out of B&Q would do rightly?

Well, if you really want a step-by-step, say so and I'll write a guide. Otherwise, I'll beg off and direct you to silverstreak70's posts for the basic construction:

I got fancy with a lower cabinet and finishing touches, like LEDs and shrouds - it took way longer than expected!

I'll put something together to help you out.
How's your woodworking skills? Do you have access to a table saw and a router? Those will be the essential tools.

Cool. I'll do up some diagrams and more notes of what I did. Might take a bit.

I know this topic has probably been brought up before, but has anyone managed to get or find a place that supplies replacement rubber O-rings? A few of mine have snapped.
