I have made a follow up video after discovering something I missed and to talk about things I forgot to mention in my first video.

Thanks a lot for this. Your transformation steps really helped and they are definitely better than the instructions especially with respect to those small tabs, those are just accidents waiting to happen.

Great reviews! You might have just sold me on this set. Those super thin rods in his legs still scare the crap out of me though  . But I suppose it probably can't be as bad as MMC Cyclops, which I just picked up last week :lol

I think the thin rods in his legs are actually decently sturdy. As long as they're not accidentally yanked too hard or purposefully bent I don't think they'll break in the hands of a collector. I do, however, think the tiny hinges in the front roof pieces could break easily if the figure were dropped or if the figure were held by them.

Good review, but I think you over-sell how "scary" the transformation is. After the first transformation I had it down, and there is nothing scary once you know how it all moves / works.

You're right, it's not as bad as I said it was. However, the first couple of times are terrifying.

Arms are mis-transformed they need rotating 180 degrees then some things make a lot more sense.

^ Yeah, I noticed that a while after doing the review when I was playing with the accessories. I originally thought the wrong way was the right way because of the deeper notch in the elbow, which allows the elbow to bend up further.

Yeah, I guess I'm just very laid back about transformations, I don't mind them being delicate or even having to really take my time (took an hour plus for the first Cyclops reviews) as long as they are not frustrating and counter-intuitive. To this day I've only given up on a few figures, ROTF Buster Prime being one of them. I really hate any toy that ships in robot mode, so that was a huge plus for these for me.
Reviews like this are essential, once someone online has the transformation documented it helps the more apprehensive TF fans, so thanks for taking the time.

The figure was purchased at site sponsor TFSource.com and comes with a variety of high caliber weapons. The bot mode is ok but the transformation is rather ingenious. The figure isn't perfect though as there are some real problems with the heals. Overall, if you are a collector it's worth having but the high price tag will keep many away.

Pedantry corner: Nissan Onebox Cherry, not Volkswagon. It was a small vanette, rather than a full on van, that's why the original '84 toy was so small.

Also, mis-transformed waist and forearms, but a lot of people seem to leave it this way. Decent review either way.

What exactly is mis-transformed about the waist and the forearms? They're exactly how the directions show them to be transformed.

Yeah I don't think the instructions are very clear about the waist. Basically the part where the upper part meets the lower part (where the pin is) can be rotated to reveal additional detailing, makes the robot mode look better IMHO.

    Ebay:
The forearm thing is a case of spinning them round 180 degrees giving better access to the arm panel, but most leave them as is as it gives the figure a double jointed elbow.

Pretty cool to have the choice!

Yeah, you can rotate the hinge part around to the back (thereby hiding the hinge-belly under his back kibble and replacing it with some generic detailing). It's actually a third rotating part to the abdomen that doesn't immediately seem as though it can rotate. It's kinda brilliant.

All of these reviews and making me lean toward ordering one of these. Looks a lot better in final form than the prototype pics; and those prototype pics were very nice.

Bought both of these recently. Definitely looking forward to them, but I might sell off the weapons that Ratchet comes with (with the exception of his pistol) since they seem a bit superfluous for him. I'll obviously keep the medical kit, though.
