You could buy this big ass RC Cadillac Escalade for the same price?

I believe it said 1:6 scale. About a foot and a half long. Now I grant that maybe not every kid desperately wants a huge RC vehicle. But I'm just imagining how much more bang for the buck you get when he opens that thing for Christmas as opposed to Optimus.

Also, $50 more gets you a ridiculously sized RC John Deere tractor. I love Target.

Because Optimus is still way cooler! You answered your own question though with "I know every kid wouldn't want a big RC vehicle." I know as a kid I wouldn't have liked that thing at all. For me, if it doesn't transform, vehicle toys can fuck off :D

because when it comes right down to it, all that does is drive.

tranformers, transform, and can fight each other.

now what's more fun? driving? or fighting? :lol

when I was a kid, I liked robots, not cars. That's why I played with my Voltron, not my uncle's model cars. The fact that robots who turned into cars existed was just a happy coincidence

yea even as a kid, i prefered transformers or any transformable toys, to anything *other then legos* that did not transform, including Gi Joe, and i still do prefer transformable toys to action figures, other wise i might as well just get barbie *what i thought as a kid at least* lol the actionfigures, or in this case, cars, have to DO something, or at least the parts it comes with.

Not me. I HATED RC cars as a kid. I got a big Lamborghini Countach one for Christmas one year. It took 8 D batteries, which lasted about a half hour. $10 for a half hour of driving a little car around or $10 for another Autobot car that I could play with for years. I know where my decisions went after that.

If I haven't done enough to dissuade my kid from wanting a friggin' Escalade of ANY kind, I'd just give him up for adoption. 1:18 and/or RC cars are fine, just so long as they aren't douchebagmobiles.

I never liked giant Hotwheels much. Especially if it dwarves your other cars.
Might as well get the kid a Power Wheel so he can actually drive it lol
Plus they're putting too much bling on them these days.

I used to hate RC's too since it cost more to power them. These days are a little better with those rechargeable battery packs. Got tired of those too and went nitro eventually. The thing cost about $300 but man it can fly. It has basically a small motorcycle engine pushing it. Kids try and race it on their bikes and they get smoked.
What majorly sucks about it is you can't drive it in cold weather and it needs fuel every 15 minutes

Now if that thing could transform and walk on its own volition, then I'd say it's a bargain! :D

I did have one :D  The battery sure didn't last long though, so I see all the points about the money it takes just to run these things.

Because that optimus wasn't made for kids, it was made for late twenty-something early thirty-something year olds with expendable money.

yeah, I fell for it too because he's just too cool.

I would have chosen Prime as a kid not only because he could transform but as robot figure I could fiddle with him and stage battles with my other figures. besides a RC toy can only be fun if one plays with it outdoors.

You obviously never used one to attack the cat. Hours of fun.

And then there's sneaking up on your mother with one when she's in the kitchen, or your dad in his study...which is fun only until they bitch you out and turn it upside down.

Oh I used to do that when I was younger if I remembered correctly. However, I felt bad for "bullying" the cat or cats. I also did it with my folks too until they gave me the "look"...the "look of death" that is"! LOL!

I liked vehicle toys and RC toys when I was a kid, but I know I would have chosen not only the MP Prime but almost ANY TF (or Star Wars or GI Joe) toy over any given RC vehicle toy. I can say that with utmost certainty because I DID have the choice between TF toys and RC toys when I was a kid, and I NEVER went for the RC ytoys.

Hell, there were times when I would pick a cheap knock-off TF over any other toy, simply because it was the only toy in the store that turned into a robot.

And besides, I always found the kids that only played with RC toys and vehicle toys to be more dull and less interesting or creative than the kids that had Transformers.

Why buy a toy car or a toy robot when you can buy a TF and have both?
