Thank you for viewing this thread. My family was rummaging through whats left of our old house when my sister came across a metal box. Within the box were my grandfather's papers, patches, and pins from his days in World War II. He served in the Pacific theater as a medic. One of the items in the box was something he recovered from a fallen Japanese soldier. I would like to know what it says. Here are the pictures of the front and back:

Any help towards a translation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for viewing.

Um! I'm not sure, I haven't been to a Japanese class since March.

I'm sorry, that's not helpful at all, is it?

The first (last line?) line on the left is be-ra. (Vera?) I think the two lines on the left are the writing on the back. Looks like a name. Possibly Italian?

It looks to be entirely in Katakana, which is generally used for English words adapted into Japanese ones.

The lines on the left just say Teodora De Vera. The stuff on the right, I cant read the second katakana but it says bi*mare. Cant read much of the kanji aside from 16.

    Teodora de Vera
    60 years old

'Binmare' city - could be Vignemale, Binmore, Vinmale, so on.

You have such an intriguing piece of history in your hands.

I was wondering if it was 16 or 60. Teodora de Vera was written right to left so I though that would be too.
