I think the reason why people put mods on them is to give them a personal twist.

Yeah they're great and everything, but some people like to have theirs as a unique one.

Just depends on what your tastes are.

I think for the most part, it's a matter of people wanting some cartoon accuracy. Megatron is the one that gets modded the most, and that's because, due to the gun laws, he cant look like himself, so people change that. The figure itself is great, people just dont want the colors. I personally kept my colors the way they are, but I ditched the wings.

I dig the guys the way they are, and I don't feel that they are really in need of any mods, though, Megs in G1 colors is pretty sweet.

I like them the way they are, but a lot of toys benefit from paint apps, touch-ups, etc. reprolabels.com even has a few sticker sheets for Rodimus and Starscream. I guess with Classics the idea is to do original characters. while they do a good job, there's always this or that to make it better. My Megs is getting 'bashed to be more show accurate. I like the toy, just not the colors. and when you 'bash him and take off his wings, he's a damn good G1 Megs. better and more true to the show than the original toy by far as far as likeness goes. I'm sure if Hasbro could have, they'd released him without neon colors and orange cap.

As soon as I save some money I'm gonna get someone on this board to mod my Classics Megatron to be G1 accurate. And I may get reprolabels for Rodimus and Starscream. To me they are even better when they are looking like G1.

I'm doing exactly that. Redline is doing the Megs and I'm getting those labels sooner or later.

like many, I'm going to be doing my painting on some of these guys as well. as has been said, it's to get that g1-scheme. I thought starscream's red wings and overall paintjob were horrible, and of course megs needs some work. astrotrain is good as himself if you want to compare it to the g1 astrotrain toy, but not the cartoon. bumblebee for the most part is good, unless you want him, and soon to be cliffjumper, to be solid colors. optimus doesn't need much, just maybe getting away with some of the brighter colors. grimmy, hot rod, jetfire, and mirage seem to have hit the nail on the head, grimlock's exposed shoulder screws being the only sore point there.

I'm never happy with anything out of the box. Besides, as cool as the Classics are, Hasbro forgot the faction insignias!

I'm also prone to making my own characters, so....

I'd also toss in my two cents, that it's not that there's anything wrong with them, but a lot of people are tweaking them to get exactly what they want, just as in the '80's, you could put the stickers on that you wanted, and where you wanted.

As for the Classics, I got a second Jetfire that I'm customizing into an Evil Decepticon Jetfire. I don't think Hasbro is going to make one, so if I want one, I have to do it myself.

I have liked all the Classics I have picked up, but I think some need some improvement, plus its fun to do.

I can't help but think the guys in the art department know they are going to get customized andt try to put features in the toy that will help us out. Like the panel lines on Starscream. They aren't needed, and aren't visible really unless you bring them out.

honestly, My observation is that the cooler the toys are, the more they get kitbashed. I did megatron, and next up is to do the seekers we aren't getting. I've already gotten starscreams to make sunstorm and skywarp with, and then I'll be getting another to make a Thrust. Once Ramjet is out, I'll get one of him to make a Dirge.

The most I've done to any of my classics toys:
    2-pack Megatron: nothing
2-pack Optimus: painted silver in the waist area
Rodimus: Moved rubsign, added Autobot sticker to chest
Bumblebee: moved rubsign, added Autobot sticker to chest
Astrotrain: moved rubsign, added decep stickers to wings, coated shoulder joints to tighten them
Starsream: moved rubsign, added decep stickers to wings
    Mirage: Added autobot sticker
    Grimlock: Added autobot sticker
other Grimlock: transplanted head onto Energon Grimlock. :)
Optimus Prime: added Autobot stickers to shoulders
Megatron: touched up paint on forehead.
    Jetfire: moved rubsign
