If Rodimus had a faceplate like Prime, would you have liked him more?

I keep thinking that if Hot Rod had gained a faceplate to match his new Rodimus Prime form like Orion Pax had, I could have forgiven him for being such a terrible leader. This leads me think that I am a shallow person when it comes to robots.

Anyone else feel the same way? I want to put up a pic of Rodimus Prime with a faceplate but I'm at work and cannot access my picture tools...

I would've liked him less, really.

I'm not a huge fan of faceplates, and I like Rodimus just the way he is.

Ultra Magnus never needed a faceplate.

Personally, I blame poor characterisation in Season 3, Rodimus Prime in the UK Marvel comics was awesome and ever bit the leader he ought to have been..

I find this notion ridiculous. If a faceplate would have made that much of a difference to you, then you must have pretty shallow standards.

Rodimus doesn't need a faceplate, he needs to man up and stop blubbing.

Likewise, I reckon the reason no one accepted Rodimus as leader was poor characterisation. We loved him as Hot Rod in the movie, but couldn't accept a self pitying emo-bot as Autobot leader.

This is why I'm disappointed that Animated ended so prematurely, as in my eyes, THAT rendition of Roddy was the perfect depiction of the G1 character SHOULD have been. Despite the brevity of his appearance, it was so obvious what he was all about - a handsome, brave, heroic and responsible leader, capable of going toe-to-toe with the Decepticon elite regardless of his obvious youth. It made me REALLY want to see the character return full time to the franchise.

I can't imagine Rodimus with a faceplate. That would be just wrong. He's good as he is. I'd say poor character is to blame too. Even if Roddy was a great and perfect leader, I'd still like Optimus better. That's just me.

This plus his car mode was awesome as Hot Rod as opposed to... I still don't know what that was supposed to be.

You know what... I'm gonna buck the trend here and say YES, I think he would have been better liked. Not just for having a faceplate, necessarily, but for feeling like, essentially, the "next generation of Optimus." That would have to involve some better characterization as well as a design change, I think, but a faceplate could help. I would even go one further and say give him the trademark Prime antennae, so that his head looked like a variation on the Optimus theme (kind of like Star Saber). And maybe instead of having a Winnebago as an alt mode, make him a long-nosed truck. Then he would really feel like a logical evolution of a Prime.

It could have been a really cool moment in the '86 movie if, when upgraded by the Matrix, we suddenly saw an Optimus-esque faceplate clamp across Rodimus' face, and Prime antennae swivel up. It would have felt like a) he was ready to kick some serious ass and b) a little bit of Optimus had returned in some fashion (probably inspiring a bit of fear in Galvatron, like his defeated foe had risen from the grave). Since Optimus' essence was part of the Matrix, and thus part of Rodimus after the upgrade, it would have made sense. And it would have given a nice running thread to the idea of a Prime.

It also would have been a good callback to Orion Pax, who was a fresh-faced, soft-looking young bot till he gained the faceplated, Centurion-like helmet when he was upgraded to Prime. The faceplate gave him an air of toughness, mystery, and detachment. It could have done the same for Rodimus, and given him more gravitas.

He also could have used a better name that the godawful "Rodimus Prime" that we're stuck with forever now.

I agree with this. I'm pro faceplate. It's sorta like a samurai helmet for my taste.

A faceplate does NOT make a great leader..it's what's under the faceplate :D

Roddy's okay, not my fave, but okay the way he is.
