to pass the Toy gun laws....

would you be ok with them putting an orange tip on the 2 gun tips?
would you be ok with them repainting him purple or green or white?
Would you be ok with them making him a Hasbro Toy store limited edition....?
Would you be ok with them if packaged him in robot mode, insted of alt mode?
would you be ok with them not putting in the little pellets?

I agree. Besides, the G1 Megs toy was kinda weird.

Megatron the character > Megatron the toy.

seriously, the toy is garbage and is little more than a novelty if he wasn't portrayed as leader.

I'd technically be OK with everything except #2 there.

However, since I already have a beat up old Megatron, a shiny Japan Reissue Megs, and Classics Megs, I wouldn't be buying it anyway.

Perhaps this question should be restated with "Masterpiece" in place of "G1/Reissue".

What's the point of this thread?

A: The gun laws have NOT been revoked.
B: Hasbro already did their best to rerelease him.
C: The G1 Megs looks like crap.
D: We already have Classics Megs, who turns into a gun and a figure with posability and proportions, something G1 lacked.
E: We're getting a MP Megs in a few months, and it will be huge, diecast, well proportioned, articulated, and turn into a Walther P38.

Conclusion: G1 Megs is completly pointless at this time. This thread is moot because no one in their right mind would take G1 over the awesome alternatives, barring nostalgia.
Now, if it's nostalgia you're after, invest in a vintage figure.

Not quite, because if Hasbro wanted to do their best, they would have actually released that nasty little prototype shown at Botcon 2005 of the unreleased G1 Commemorative Series Megatron. Not only did it have an orange cap, it was also colored blue. Among other colors. In that case, Hasbro was more than justified to not bother with a release. If I need a G1 Megatron - and I don't, unless his reissue gets reissued to guarantee it's affordable - I'll gladly import and avoid the headaches.

^ It was from one of the panels, I think, and it might have been a proto from before the reissue line (maybe G2). If it's from the Alvarez panel, and it likely was, then there won't be any pics.

I recall Hasbro saying that despite the work they put into it, the prototype they had still did not make it past the toy gun laws.

I had thought I had heard that somewhere, though I guess I'm not sure anymore. HOwever, I would be suprised if they didn't put diecast on him. Then again, I was equally suprised that Starscream didn't have diecast, so who knows.

How will people get the new masterpiece figure if you cannot import the as a gun?

Takara should just package it as a robot to avoid the confusion.

will the customs be so stupid to not recognize a blown-up gun that obviously could not be real?

plus there are no windows on MP boxes, and I doubt MP 05 will have one, also, Takomy could put Megs in botmode in the box, like they did with MP 01 & 02

considering MP01 was packaged as a robot, Its not exactly a stretch to think that they'd package MP05 the same way.

    Exactly.

As I mentioned before in another thread, I think it could also be a wicked idea if someone (hopefully Takara) made a customized case with grey molded foam to store Meg's in gun mode along with his main accessories (silencer, scope & stock). I mean c'mon, how cool would it be to have a real looking diecast gun case sitting on your display shelf that opens up to show what also looks like a real gun set sitting inside? Even if he is slightly oversized, the average Joe Blow who you show it to certainly wouldn't notice at first glance.

Something like this except with custom molded foam for the gun & accessories to fit nicely into.
