Probably more LED lights, more articulation, transforming sound chip, motorized or battery operated gimmick that either transforms or does something cool... Possibilites are endless, but the newer TF's do that now.

Well yes, but I'm wondering by what extent? How much detail and articulation could be put into the figures? Articulating limbs and head is one thing. But mouth piece, light-up eyes, suspension work, more detailed engine, stuff like that.

Completely Automated Transformations. Press a button, and POOF.. the toy transforms itself.
If technology in the 80's was like what we have today... Toys now would be pretty much completely automated Robots.

Maybe something like the movie "Small Soldiers"?

Hella fragile and probably only available in Japan. Either way, they'd also be hella expensive.

They'd be secretly sentient and be plotting to kill us in our sleep.

I'd actually be satisfied with full-motion racheting joints with the toughest plastic this world can find. You know, toys that'll last a few centuries. THAT's what I'd call good technology.

Like current G1 figures. Assuming there would still be a Transformers line after 25 years.

Seriously. MP's in the 80's would not have sold anywhere near in the numbers that G1s sold then. not at the price they go for. Hasbro and Takara would have lost millions just on the number of expensive toys that were shelfwarming full aisles at Toys R Us.

As I said, assuming the cartoon was just that popular without every kid in America having corresponding toys to keep the line alive, they would have been forced to redesign to become much simpler and cheaper to produce and sell.

I tend to agree with some of you guys. The MP G1's back then in the 80's wouldn't have made it in sales.

Probably like some freaky real-life version of the G1 cartoon episode Child's Play, with them running around you room and hiding in toy chests and stuff.

If G1 figures had been the complexity of today's Masterpieces then we probably wouldn't have had the Masterpiece line at all as it wouldn't be needed.

Let's assume the cost and sales is the same, and go from there.

honestly the price point would have been so high the line would be dead and be naught but a memory now.

but as you said to set that aside not that you truly can in my opinion.

But todays Mps would be of such immense complexity we would likely not transform them more than one and put them on display.
