If "Autobots" stands for "AUTOnomous roBOTS", what does "Decepticon" stand for? Besides evil and power that is.

I believe Autobots were named after automobiles, since that's what they turn into. As for Decepticons, words "deceptive" and "con" pretty much describes them.

That's the historic reasoning. The Movie series has added an in-universe explanation for the Autobots (Autonomous Robotic Organisms).

Although this is never stated on screen to the best of my knowledge, this is the official "in-universe" explanation for the name.

I believe these two responses combined is the definite answer to what Decepticon stands for.

Autobot doesn't necessarily mean Autonomous Robot anywhere but the Tyran Cluster.

To the best of my knowledge, Autobot was the original faction. So, Autonomous Robotic organism describes the entire race. While Decepticon, describes the actions of that faction... DECEPTive CON artists, as others have said. But they're all still Autonomous robots...
    Or, something.

Again, depends on the continuity. In Exodus, Orion Pax coined the name Autobot around the time Megs made up Decepticon. For long before that, they were just Cybertronians.

One thing people have to realize about Transformers: Just about everything depends on which particular universal stream you're watching.

G1 is the source and from what I get out of it. Autobots were the scientist, workers and such meaning Automation Robot (just do it) and the Decepticons were the warriors meaning Deceptive Con (against) even though Con in Con Artist means Confidence.

But a robot in "disguise" is Deceptive. Furthermore, if there was a true fraction as a whole, wouldn't it be called Deceptbots!? And the word "Transformers" be more used as what humans call them and Cybertronian there species?

Exodus presents Optimus as coining the "autonomous robots" moniker as a potential name for Megatron's movement, based on desiring autonomy of life, free from the forced caste system of Cybertron. But "Decepticon" takes hold, and when the war breaks out, Prime calls his guys the Autobots in counter to it.

Nope, because Transformers that are not Megapretenders or Beast Machines are not in any way biomechanoids, as they have no organic components. They are simply mechanoids.

Autonomus Robot Lifeforms was a Bay-ism, and should be taken about as seriously as Devastator's Nuts.

Except that the definition has clearly been absorbed by Hasbro and included in the new production bible that's guiding the current media, since it is used in both the Prime cartoon and the Exodus novel.
