At the GM celebirty event held on Tuesday at the Paramount lot, all the stars came out to celebrate fashion and cars. We caught up with director Michael Bay, producer Tom DeSanto and actor Tyrese Gibson all from the Transformers movie due out July 4th of this year.

Tom was informative, Tyrese was jockin' the competition and Bay was downright hilarious. Bumblebee and Jazz joined the party on the red carpet as well.

With Bay, we had to go for the voice over talent question. Who is voicing Megatron? Well folks, he says we will know shortly. But just between you and me, from an insider, I heard that Welker is out of the running. And as fans we have to admit that at 71 years old, Welker's voice has some age, but the same insider says Welker will be voicing a character but not Megatron. We'll just have to wait and see how true or false this information is so don't go freaking out just yet.

the links to the video interviews:

    Michael Bay - Director

    Tom DeSanto - Producer

Tyrese Gibson - "USAF Master Sgt. Epps"

Huh? Considering what it must cost to get a VA of Welker's calibur, why Bay would use him for anyone other than Megs is beyond me. I listened to the "recent" clip of Welker doing Megatron - while not spot-on, it was recognizable for not having done WORK as Megs in 20 yrs. Given what they can do electronically, I can't see Welker doing anyone on the film other than Megs.

And if it's an age or health consideration (which is possible - he may be having health problems, since his pic is obviously a bit out of date), then it may be a good idea to go w/ someone else/younger, you should be around for the next 5+ yrs for sequels.

But I'm still pulling for Welker = Megatron.

"One thing that I am looking forward for the longest is something that Michael Bay was able to do on the set of Transformers. At one point of the film we are going to see a large delivery truck full of Furbys turned upside down and destroyed along with those furry little demonic toys."

Frank Welker is 62, not 71, and his vocal range is still damn good.

i agree with you. afterall, he is still voicing 'freddy' from scooby doo, and just finished recording nibbler on the upcoming futurama movie. why did they have to hire michael bay? i know i will go see the movie, but i certainly don't have my hopes up, and i am pretty much going to hear peter cullen as optimus.

Towards the end, Bay really wanted to get away from the interviewer, didn't he?

Between the rumours on DM.net, and watching Bays reactions on IESB.net (look at the eyes shift), I think it's becoming apparent that Welker won't be Megs.

If Hanna-Barbera can afford him for Scooby-Doo, and Hollywood mostly uses him for animal sounds, I don't imagine it costs all that much to get him, relative to a Hollywood budget.

If Welker isnt voicing Megs, and he has "age" in his voice, and Ironhide is a "veteran" in this movie, perhaps Welker = Ironhide ???!!! That would be totally unexpected, and in my opinion awesome.

yeah, i was thinking of him doing ironhide or possibly ratchet. but im pretty darn sure that if a guy of his profile/status amongst people like us were doing the Megs voice, we would know about it by now.

I think if Welker isn't Megs, he won't be in it at all.

Bay clearly thinks that its up to him who's in and who's out and he won't be pressured into choosing a particular person to play a character.

Yes, theres Cullen, but by Bays choice. I don't think his ego would let him.

I like the film but Bay is far to "Look at me, Look at me, I'm Michael Bay WORSHIP ME DAMMIT!".

In what way is this different from a director having control over the casting? Seriously, step back and think for a moment.

Unlike Cullen, Welker isn't even the unanimous choice for Megs.
