if Hasbro decided to do 12-18 months of IDW designs as their generations line, would you buy it or would that piss you off

If the toys were well done there would be no reason to be pissed.

It was the IDW comics that got me back into collecting, and my CHUG shelf is my IDW shelf, with the Lost Light crew taking pride of place. I've loved it whenever we've got a figure based on an IDW design (ok, maybe not T:30 Tailgate) so I'd lap that up. That said, I'd be very surprised if they did, seeing as the comics aren't a massive 'brand driver'.

Modern takes on my favorite characters is what I love about collecting and IDW designs are really good in my opinion. So, yes I'd love an official IDW styled line.

Fix me if I'm wrong but isn't that sorty of what the Gen stuff currently is... an IDWerish take on the G1 stuff ( mostly)?

I’d prefer they just mix things up. Toss and IDW styled figure in when it makes sense. Of course I’d also like them to use more characters from post-G1. Oddly enough, IDW has integrated many post-G1 characters into their G1 books, so it works out either way.

The current lineup is more "G1 with added articulation" than IDW. Just compare Brainstorm from T30 and TR. They have different aesthetics completely.

I'd prefer they continue G1 with articulation till everyone got an
update, then G2, then BW, so on.
But if they did an IDW line...
    It would have
to be a line dedicated to the more original characters.
    Nautica, Tarn, Whirl, an
Ultra Magnus with a deluxe or legends Minimus Ambus, Deathsaurus, Nickel, Pipes, Grit...
Because there is no way I'm
    spending
    my money on a
    Statscream or Optimus who
are supposed to be IDW designs because
    they
    have a few greebles.
    That would just
    be a waste of slots.

I might go in for some, but maybe not all. I would love to see more of the IDW original characters getting figures. Mostly the DJD.

Not really. Problem is that most IDW designs doesn't translate well into being toy friendly. As in, most their robot designs seem to half hazard throw in random vehicle designs like wheels in the shoulders or headlights on shins or crotch or whatever.

It was fine the last time they did it, why wouldn't it be fine now?

I'd much prefer that to G1-toys with more articulation and a gimmick shoved in.

IIRC, Alex Milne's said before that he designs his characters with the intent that they could transform smoothly if they were toys. I'd be personally down to see an IDW line, if only to get an official comic accurate LL crew.

There are quite a few IDW designs I'd love to have at a decent size for less than $80 a figure.

I prefer the G1 versions of the G1 characters. (I feel like I wasted money on IDW Trailcutter and IDW Tailgate given the CW and PotP versions we now have.)

And I don't really enjoy the IDW comics.

So making another IDW wave would probably save me money.

Does it mean a combining Mindwipe, Astrotrain, Cosmos and Acid Storm? I would get a kick out of that. :lol

But, I would be okay with a line of IDW based Transformers. I don't really follow the comics, but there are some decent designs that I wouldn't mind knocking about on my shelves so long as they can pass as part of the same overall look. I have the CW oddities around so that wouldn't be much of a problem. It would be a waste of time if they don't do some of the characters original to it, such as Nautica and Tarn.
