IDW has been purchased by IDT (my employer). I don't have link to story but you should be able google it. I can't paste story as I'm posting from my sidekick. Sorry.

Wonder if this means I get discounts? Hmmm.

IDT Internet Mobile Group Forms Zedge Studios & Acquires Controlling Interest in IDW Publishing
NEWARK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--IDT Internet Mobile Group (IMG), a division of IDT Corporation, has formed Zedge Studios to develop and license digital content for distribution through web and mobile platforms. Additionally, IMG has acquired a controlling interest in IDW Publishing (www.idwpublishing.com), a leading independent comics publisher pre-eminent in the horror, action, and sci-fi genres, boasting such high-profile titles as The Transformers, 30 Days of Night, CSI, Star Trek, 24, and Scarface.

Moshe Berger, formerly CEO of IDT Entertainment, which was sold to Liberty Media in 2006, is now working towards making IDT’s Internet Mobile Group an industry leader. “We have seen the explosion of digital content, especially user-generated content, over a variety of platforms,” said Mr. Berger, IMG CEO and head of Zedge Studios. “This is what the new generation of consumers craves. Our intention is for Zedge Studios to become the worldwide destination for content on the web and on mobile devices. IDW Publishing’s stellar reputation in the comics and graphic novel arenas and its emphasis on original intellectual properties in the action and horror genres are a perfect fit for Zedge Studios. Working closely with IDW’s brilliant management and creative team will bring us one step closer to achieving our global goal.”

An established leader in the comic book and graphic novel marketplace, IDW Publishing has been named “Publisher of the Year” by Diamond Comic Distributors for the previous three years. In keeping with that honor, IDW maintains a commitment to nurturing original content from its dynamic creative roster. For instance, Sam Raimi (Spider-Man) and his Ghost House Pictures optioned the rights to 30 Days of Night from IDW Publishing and are producing the live-action feature film adaptation of the original horror work, published by IDW and created by Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith. Columbia Pictures is scheduled to release the film, which stars Josh Hartnett, in October.

“I'm proud of the growth we've achieved at IDW over the last eight years and very excited to be working with IDT and IMG’s Zedge Studios to catapult our company into new territories,” said IDW co-founder and CEO Ted Adams. “We look forward to the expanded opportunities that this new business relationship will produce for our existing and future properties.”

In December of 2006, IMG announced its acquisition of Zedge (www.zedge.net), a popular social networking community for mobile users and provider of free mobile content which recently topped the five million member mark. Zedge Studios will capitalize and build upon that loyal user base by developing, acquiring and financing intellectual property (IP) for distribution over multiple channels, including Zedge.net. The site hosts a wealth of complimentary content and tools for mobile phones, with over 250 million pieces of content already downloaded. Zedgers generate, upload, download, or view and share wallpaper, themes, videos, ringtones, games and other free mobile content. Zedge also hosts a robust social community and its blog, zedgeheadz (http://blog.zedge.net), focuses on the world of mobile content.

    About IDW:

IDW Publishing is an established leader in the comic book and graphic novel marketplace, particularly in the horror, action, and sci-fi genres. The company also works with foreign licensing agents to sell their comics around the world, with titles being published in multiple languages and crossing dozens of regions.

I don't know thing one about IDT (except now what's in the press release) but I can't help but be pessimistic whenever a company is purchased by another.

TF comics are currently the best they've ever been. "Innovative and opportunity seeking"? *shivers* Don't screw this up for us, IDT.

We will be watching this development VERY closely.

It always seems to happen when the storylines are getting really good.
We need to see the Megatron Origins to its finale, just to name a few....

Press releases are all fluff as far as I'm concerned. Just curious as to how our beloved TF books will be effected.

HEY, IDT DON' FIX IT IF IT AINT BROKE
    !!!

    Thanks - front paged.

IDW has done a STELLAR job with the Transformers license. Hopefully this move is a good one that will benefit the health of the license and all the artists & writers involved.

And if this causes any problems/delays to the Beast Wars profiles book...

One man's trash is another man's treasure, I guess. But I think there are many opportunities for improvement with the license.

From the internal memo we received, they plan on pumping money into IDW and that's all. I wish I could post memo, but I kinda like my job. But I would be optimistic. :)

They had BETTER not mess with what IDW's got going.

    And that's my two cents.

Please don't screw this up! The Transformers comics are the only ones I care about! Like the man said don't fix it if it ain't broken (which it ain't)! I hope this only makes the IDWpublishing better or just the same! I think this might be a good thing! But theres a chance this could be just like Dreamwave dibocal and the fans suffer because of it! But right now i'm optimistic!

Well so far the IDW employees seem excitedly hopeful.
    I just don't like surprises.

I don't want to have to log on to TFW2005 and see a headline that IDW has been absorbed and no more TF comics...

Comics have been the only medium that is truly giving old skool fans what we've always wanted. Hasbro will only ration out a few toys we really want every few seasons and exaust us with tragic misses and sad excuses. Hollywood will only give us a few ugly bots with G1 names in beautiful FX. Mainframe will never give us another Beast Wars cartoon. Only in comics are we (Hard-core old skool G1/BW fans) consistently, on a month to month basis catered too.

If we get that taken away again, I'm gonna have to retire again and go back to Star Wars or somethin.....:banghead:

Given the timing of this, I have a difficult time in seeing how this would not result in the same or more TF comics than IDW currently publishes. With the earnings that the new movie is seeing, it would only diminish the future value of what it has just purchased by having the TF comics scaled back.

Of course, should the sequel to the new movie fail to deliver (even worse scheduling, etc.), then there may be cause for concern. However, that still gives two solid years where there is absolutely no reason to be concerned about the results of this news.

Or unless Hasbro makes the licensing fees escalate greedily pimping the success of the film and also trying to make up for the Easy Bake Oven recalls and Lucasfilm debacle...
and IDT doesn't see it as a profitable good idea anymore too renew the license because they would rather focus$$ on 'digital media' and then....

no more IDW TF comics, since they only appeal to a few hardcore G1 fans & not the Toonami/Cartoon Network/Teen Titans audience that Hasbro is pushing the next cartoon too...

I can't understand why this is a big deal to folks. This stuff happens all of the time - and I doubt some IT firm gives a rat's ass about creative changes in the TF books.

Unless that kronos dude is named as the new head writer / artist / EIC, that is. ;)
