Transformers: More the Meets the Eye #1 preview « RyallTime Blog
I am so f'n excited for this book. Totally not going to read that preview so I can read all at once on Wednesday.
Edit: In B4 sideswipe80 hates Nick Roche's Looney Tunes artwork
nice anyone think the alt modes look balnd
Oh god... I love the WFC-esque designs so much.
I need this book. Now.
WFC designs. Ugh. Story seems alright though.
is it just me, or are the pics reeeeeeeally small?
guess i'm in the minority, agian, but i am so not at all digging these designs...they look a young childs toon...uhg!...and WTF is up with anorexic Hot Rod?!
Does anyone else see Iron Man's face on Hot Rod's chest on that one page?
They look a bit too much like anime characters.
I've been refreshing the News forum here and on IDW's boards all day waiting for a preview and still giggled like a school girl when I saw the thread title. Wednesday can't get here soon enough.
I Think the art improved a bit, Bumblebee doesn't look as bad now, as compared to Death of Optimus Prime. For me the art while, not my preferred style, is still passable. The important thing now is to get a great story out, after getting years of crappy storylines despite great art.
I dare say this will be the best transformers series in a long time if not ever. I actually really like Roche's art style but I can see why people hate it due to it's cartoonyness.
I never understand this complaint. You know Transformers was a cartoon, right?
Anyhow, I guess you'll be glad, but I'm disappointed Roche won't be continuing to draw this book. I hope he comes back to it.
Nope, I see it too.
No you're not the only one who noticed. I don't like that borderline "Animated" style either. So here's to hopes that it's at least a good story
After looking through all the preview pages, man, how can you not be excited for this? When was the last time we even got a mention of a transformation cog? Roberts knows his Transformers, and I can't wait to see what he has in store for us next!
I can't wait for this comic to hit my local comic book store. I've already reserved all 5 covers.
Well, if you don't like what Roche is doing here, just wait for the second issue and Milne on art duty.
Personally, I don't mind Nicks art. I just want to finally read a freakin good story, from the begining of the issue, to the end. D: And this is what i see here.
You are not alone on that one, I managed to squint my way through all bar one speach bubble of Bumblebee's.
As far as the altmodes: there's only a couple of them here, though the details most of us might otherwise expect on Cyclonus are pared back to say the least, though aside from LSOTW I'm not super familiar with Roche's visual lexicon; this could rpresent motion blurring, or a change to altmode, or another new tangent for the art seeping in. Though to be fair this is something of a self contained story, though not to the extent of the aforementioned Roche/Roberts work. To me only - or mostly - the first page jumped out ot me as drastically stylised in a particular way.
The two TFs in the second panel have an almost Animated vibe. In the first, Rod's design stands out the most initially: theres a hint of the movieverse and more so TF: Prime DNA in there - just a hint though. Looking at Ultra Magnus then, who had a faithfully traditional G1 aesthetic in LSOTW, one could say that Roche is using the reversion to Cybertronian modes as a springboard into the stylistic direction he's taking. I mean, beyond the evidence of different altmode parts, he - infact all three Autbots in the forst panel - have a different overall gesture as we called it in life drawing, as well as expression and proportion. The latter may be in part down to perspective, or expressionistic use or paring back of detail... who knows?
While it may be my getting used to the style here as I read on - not that I object ot it as some will - I found it sits quite well with the Bumblebee and Ratchet scene, even complimenting 'Bee's character quit ewell in particular.
