Damn, McCarthy probably threw an Earth-shaking anger-fit when he saw Figueroa's new not-a-gun design for Megatron:lol

I am seriously loving the cover for Ongoing #15, while I am more for the traditional look of Megatron I do think this new look shall be interesting for the series. And DAMN thats a big gun he has.

Is it just me, or does Megatron's new design resemble Super Megatron?

That Megatron... looks like the most generic Gundam-esque robot of all times. If he didn't have the buckethead, none of you would even entertain the possibility of him being Megatron.

    In other words, design failure.

Christ, will you lot stop throwing out Gundam comparisons just because you don't like it?

I think he looks terrific. Looking forward to seeing DOTM Shockwave!

I like the Gundam design. It just doesn't work for Transformers, and particularly not for Megatron.

Both his arms and his legs have, IMO, a distinctively Gundam-esque feel. The body just looks bizarre. And he doesn't look like Megatron in any way, shape, or form.

I might have to get that IDW Collection, just for the Marvel crossover

I can't find a non-stupid priced version of it anywhere!

"Megatron has been on the run since Optimus Prime defeated the Fallen... But now a new player has arrived on Earth, and he's not taking prisoners!"

I smell Megatron vs Optimus vs SHOCKWAVE

Megatron vs SHOCKWAVE??? So, is this ship maybe SHOCKWAVE???

I think that's somewhat unfair. The only thing that screams 'Gundam' to me are the weird kneepads..everything else looks in line with the more detailed Ongoing designs Don has been using since issue #1.

Also it's evident Megatron has a new altmode in a different color..one that's meant to be more badass or something. Guess we'll need to see what he turns into (SR-71?), but to simply say 'we wouldn't guess who it was without the head' sounds too simple to me. Besides, he still has some big gun/sword looking thing ons right arm.

I do have to agree with the people who feel his design has a bit too much elements feeling like those on Hot Rod, which is unfortunate.

To be honest, I think the 'Gundam' argument is flawed anyway. Both Gundam and Transformers share the same source in Japanese mecha, which on it's turn, is based on Japanese Samurai. Both have had alot in common since day 1, and the Japanese Transformers shows have all done a 'great' job in taking the designs into Gundam territory. It's nothing new.

Reminds me of somebody who was complaining the third faction in Drift's miniseries looked too much like Gundams and not Transformers..wasn't the whole idea behind the third faction that they're even more Japanese inspired? :)

As long as most of the TF retain the blocky feel of this universe, I don't see the problem in mixing things up from time to time.

If deluxe, then no thanks,I mildly like deluxes. I'm willing to settle for a voyager sized toy. but my preferred size class for this 2011 IDW Megatron design is leader size.

Ugh, wait--is that Megatron on the ongoing cover?

What the fuck, man. Megatron in G1 should LOOK LIKE MEGATRON. BOXES. GREY. RED.

I would have never guessed that Ongoing is G1. I thought it was a separate universe.

IDW's new Megatron design is absolutely awesome - that is what Megatron should be - an terrifying engine of destruction in both robot and vehicle forms.

Even when I was a kid, Megatron's gun mode always bugged the crap out of me. Why a gun when he could be a tank or a bomber jet? His alternate form only worked when someone could wield him as a weapon - as the TF Movie staff (either the writers or Lorenzo DiBonaventura (I know I messed up that name) pointed out, it's like Darth Vader turning himself into a lightsaber and having a stormtrooper swing him around.

As for some fans' utter resistance to change (*coughOnslaughtSixcough*), you need to understand that in order for the Transformers franchise to stay successful, it must continually improve itself. That means finding what works and removing what doesn't - Megatron's gun mode didn't work then and doesn't work now; neither did Unicron's origin as a monkey's creation, the Armada/Energon kids, Beast Machines's insertion of organics into the Transformer race, and the supervillains of Animated.
