    Looking good.

Love Roche's Devastation cover. The original Odd Couple!

Why do I get the feeling the Autobots have abandoned Earth to the Reapers and Decepticons?

Normally I love Roche's work, but I'm not feeling this one.

I don't think I like how Furman is handling Arcee. Again. The whole "there are no women in Transformers because robots have no gender" thing rings of sexism to me. If there's no gender, why are they all portrayed as males and given male pronouns while in conversation?

    The better to HEADBUTT!

Too bad Grungewerx isn't doing the art.

I've always assumed that it's because there is no other appropriate english translation. Although it would be interesting if, following english custom, all robotic TF's were refered to assumed male, but all vehicles were presumed female. ie. ships planes and cars are often female.

"Here comes Optimus Prime, and she's really hauling ass!"

Because calling Optimus Prime "it" instead of "him" doesn't work. It's so humans (with our gendered society) can understand. Male pronouns are the default.

BTW in an unrelated conversation with my wife, the subject of genderbased pronouns came up. And in Spanish, almost EVERY word is based on either a masculine or feminine form, and this will continue even onto verbs.

(Not a literary expert here btw)

So if the Transformers had landed in a latin speeking contry, many of them would be female at random. And by trying to adapt to human form and custom, would some of them have adapted feminine personality quirks and voices? Well I guess we'd never know.

Same with French, and most languages with a strong Latin root (some English words too, like Actor/Actress etc)

Yep ... but our word for HE is the same as our word for IT: El.
