I'm sure I've not been the only one to muse on this, but given IDW's still gonna be doing new comics after the continuity wraps this year, referring to it as "IDW" or "IDW G1" is going to be increasingly clunky/difficult given the new one will likely incorporate G1 elements as well.

So, with that said, probably worth thinking about what we should colloquially and retrospectively refer to IDW continuity as. Thoughts, people?

My own proposal that feels right in my head is "Shockpoint", for obvious spoilery reasons.

For me it depends on what type of continuity the new one will be.? What will the chief source be for it? So for me this is IDW generation 1 and maybe the new one will be IDW generation 2 but it depends on how the new one is pitched.

    Just my two cents

Assuming that something flashier than "IDW comic continuity" or "Hasbro Comic Universe" is desired:

    Transformers: Regenesis.

"Shockpoint" sounds cool, but it feels a bit too on the nose (and sounds a bit too similar to Flashpoint). How about "Regenesis Continuity"?

Or we could just call the new continuity "IDW's Transformers 2: Timemaze Boogaloo"

Edit: Darn it @Boatformer, you beat me by a few minutes!

What to call it? Another dead Transformers universe among the multiverse.

Call it IDW. Does it need a fancy title? We call Dreamwave Dreamwave and Marvel Marvel, don't we?

Marvel don't have two different continuities, and Dreamwaves is clear cut, which it probably won't be from the company with two Transformers, two RIDs and a longstanding addiction to book renaming.

Probably the "2005 IDW TF comics" or "2010's IDW TF comics," as opposed to the "new 2019 IDW TF comics" and the "old '80's Transformers comics." More formally, the "2005-2018 IDW Transformers continuity"

That said the IDW collection already uses the Phase numbering as an identifier, so I might just go with that.

    IDW’s The Transformers, Phases 1 & 2.

IDW’s The Transformers Phase 3 begins in 2019... probably.

We’ll see how soft or hard the reboot is, next year... hopefully, maybe.

Problem with Shockpoint: Spoils to people who haven't read it.

IDW First Continuity maybe? Or the Hasbroverse continuity, assuming the next doesn't have one?

No one should ever have been calling IDW continuity "G1" in the first place. That's my thought. Every version of Transformers incorporates elements from G1. That's not a valid rationalization for mislabeling the IDW comics.

As for what we should call it, I kind of think we need to wait and see what the new continuity is like and all about, before we can really pick a fitting name for the previous one.

Here's hoping. But that name kind of shits on all the years of good comics before we got that shared universe forced on us.

    G1 IDW.

I’m not expecting the reboot to have anything in common with G1, other than name reuses and very very loose visual similarities.

No... every returning character is pretty much their G1 selves only in a new continuity. I expect the continuity will be as different as Prime and RiD15 is to G1.

IDWverse is G1 about as much as is Bayverse, aside of IDW having G1-inspired character designs. And of course IDW having much better writing across the board.

And yeah, it's just IDWverse 1.0 for me. The next one will be IDWverse 2.0.

Need no fancy names for it.

You'd wish. Disliking something is not making it untrue.

The Bayhem movies recycle entire plots lifted from G1 cartoon. They also use Witwicky in a role much closer to the G1 counterpart.

If not for alien robot designs barely looking like TFs, this would be a very straightforward geewunised reboot. Just a not very smart and rather adolescent reboot.

Now, the quality and depth of this adaptation can be argued.

But if you switched IDW designs to something Bay-ish looking it would be about on pair with the movieverse in terms of fidelity with G1. Just much better written.
