IDW Collection 6 has 1-6 of the ongoing, the rest of it isnt in hardcover yet. Though it does have TPB volumes. Coda is an add on that kind of explains certain things, slides into the story. kinda. was supposed to fix some issues, but made others.

5 has AHM and Codas, btw

It doesn't hurt. I personally like having all the collection volumes in my bookcase. That way you can always re-read the series from start to - whatever in the order it was meant to be read in. Collection volume 7 is going to have the next set of ongoing in it and its up for pre-order on amazon now. No idea yet on who the cover art will be.

Is it better if I buy it from amazon or IDW?

Its good for IDW either way. You will more than likely save money buying it off of Amazon. Not to mention in the rare and unlikely circumstance that something does happen to your book it will be easier to deal with and get a replacement with Amazon.

Also if you sign up for Prime membership you get all your shipping for free and upgraded to 2 day shipping to boot. I order so much online that this literally pays for itself.

Does it costs anything for prime membership? And even if you buy it from amazon IDW gets half that money for profits

You can try a free trial of Prime Membership for 30 days. After that its an annual fee of $80 last time I checked. As a bonus you get their live streaming service thats like Netflix only not as good but they are catching up.

"edit" Sorry I just realized your location is in Canada, I'm not sure how Prime Membership works in the great north.

I remember reading AHM last issue and I see Thundercracker being called a traitor by Skywarp, is that part of the coda? Or the coda is an issue where Ironhide and Prime argue?

Is Hearts and Darkness part of the old ongoing series or is it by itself?

It tied into the ongoing series. There was one scene in HoD that was redrawn in the ongoing.

Heart of Darkness ties into the Ongoing leading up to Chaos, while I haven't read it, the general consensus is it's not very good and not essential reading to the rest of the series, but it's up you whether to get it as well.
If you want to read just the Ongoing, go with the TPBs.
If you want to read the other stuff like Last Stand of the Wreckers, the Bumblebee and Ironhide mini-series and Infestation Vol. 1, then go with the IDW Collections. Simples.

Basically in order to understand Chaos it's recommended to read HOD? And I won't get the TPB that cost 10$ I will go and get them all at Comixology

No, like I said, from what I gather HoD is NOT crucial to understanding Chaos, whether you read it or not is up to you though.
