Are these just reprints of the Dreamwave comics or are they new material?
just reprints IIRC
Wonder if Furman could convince them to let him finish the Energon story.
Doubtful, given how many lines they've got, and its a toyline that ended like 4 years ago.
The Energon Volume 1 Cover might've been original art by Guidi if I remember correctly.
This makes Orio a sad panda.
but yeah, i'm still bummed the dreamwave stories never got a proper send off...fucking pat lee...
at least we still get DON on art on a TF series again...
Do they have access to the original art for these reprints, or are they just scanning in old comics? I have the originals, and when I browsed through the IDW reprints, the quality of the art was off quite a bit. Not so much that they aren't readable, but the art wasn't as crisp and clean as it was when Dreamwave printed their comics.
Just wondered what the source was.
I noticed this too, especially with certain portions of the Armada reprints. Has to be something legal related, or Lee just "lost the originals" or something.
While I know you're talking about the original digital files (given most colouring is done in photoshop these days), one thing that has remained a mystery to me is the original pencils the artists had to actually send to Dreamwave. I'm still not sure what stealing original pencils (by anybody at Dreamwave's Canadian offices at the time of the bankruptcy) would have accomplished, because anytime a sale comes up, we know it would have been obtained by dubious means, like with test shots, except this time we know of the victims personally.
I'm pretty sure by then, everything was done digitally, and most of the artists kept their original pencils, sometimes selling them off later. I seem to recall seeing some of them from a few of the ex-DW artists.
Its entirely possible the digital files used for printing were lost though, and maybe IDW just didn't figure it would be worth "re-mastering" them, as opposed to just scanning copies or using some inferior source. Or maybe they figured a reprint like this wouldn't make much money, and so they used lower cost, lower quality reprinting methods.
I bought the first IDW Energon bc DW only printed them in flimsy digests, but it just looked like IDW photocopied the DW digests and made them bigger.
Separate names with a comma.
