I just got back from seeing it, total popcorn flick, and cage wasn't too bad, which was teh only thing I really went to saw I guess.. only problem I had with it was the knife wound thing.... okay, so he gets knifed, he reverts to human form, has the wound.. but then after he takes a shower it disapears? And what was happening with the gunshot wounds not effecting him? Meh, still, it was funny for the lizard scene. *PFFTHT*
I just got back from the movie and I friggin loved it! Now bear in mind that I'm pretty easy to please with movies, but I really did like this. I didn't know a whole lot about him going in, and didn't have many expectations. It definately blew me away though. The effects of him as Ghost Rider seemed a little odd at first, but they cleaned it up. My only real gripe is that I would have liked to have seen the villians more powerful too. However, I definately liked it and will probably see it again.
I forot to mention, the funniest part of the whole movie. The catering for the movie was done by 2 companies called Hel's Kitchen and I thin Seduction Sweets. I have also decided they need to make a Caretaker w/ Horse figure.
I laughed so damn hard when I saw that. It really made me think "No wonder the Marvel Universe keeps him around, he'd be great at a barbecue. Anyone know what the name of that song was during the closing credits? Can't seem to figure it out and I can't find it on iTunes.
I think the song is actually "Ghost Riders in the Sky." Its pretty old but they seem to have revamped it.
It was a Johnny Cash song... But anyways, I was kinda 'meh' about the whole thing. Cage was hammy and the Blaze character was kinda lame. The jelly-beans and Carpenters music was lame-o. The whole movie was too lighthearted. I would've enjoyed a fight scene or two, as well. Eva Mendes sucks. Big titties does not a good actress make. The villains sucked ass. Super-lame neo-Matrix fucktards in trench coats. The whole 'western' motif was kinda hit and miss. Didn't really work as a whole. Sam Elliot was badass. Peter Fonda was awesome as Mephisto. Liked that kinda comic-Mephisto shadow he cast in the tent. The CGI was okay. Nothing spectacular. I did really like the way they used the penance stare. That was badass. I read lots of GR back in the day. I didn't hate this movie, but it I didn't like it a whole lot either. I thought it was a pretty even mixture of Ketch/Blaze as far as that goes. It's just sad they PG-13'd it, because it really sapped some of the intensity of the character out. That was the vital ingredient that this flick was missing... intensity. And any kind of character depth. I'd advise watching it at a matinee, instead of paying full price. I'm kinda hoping that we'll get a badass R-cut on DVD, like MSJ did on DD. It made that flick a totally different movie.
This movie was a much bigger git then predicted. Our theatre did its best numbers since Pirates 2 came out. It wasn't all Ghost Rider- Bridge to Terabithia, Daddy's Little Girls, Breach, Music and Lyrics, and Norbit all did their part- but all of our evening shows sold out that past two days. For the msot part, people seem to enjoy it as a popcorn flick. It's a fun movie to see, good special effects, and Nicolas Cage tends to be worth watching on screen as an actor. Time to start prepping Ghost Rider 2: Vengeance! -Tony!
Yeah, it's a cover of the old Johnny Cash song, Ghost Riders in the Sky. This cover was done by Spiderbait. The thing that really confuses me, is why for the movie line toys did they make a Vengence toy without him being in the movie? I watched to the end thinking I'd see some sort of set up for a sequel with Vengence being shown or something.
i gotta put my foot down here and insist my intention was not to spam. im genuinely hyped abt the movie, bought the old dan ketch comics, have the figure from that, buying the current daniel way stuff, bought the figure which i posted in the ML thread. rooting for nick cage even. so i quoted the rollins song to express my excitement. the song is....ghost rider. which this thread is abt.
I had no previous knowledge of Ghost Rider going in and I enjoyed it. I was remarking to my Girlfriend that every seen with Eva Mendes was full of clevage... and then it dawned on me why. Question for all the GR comic readers out there: ***********WARNING QUESTION WRAPPED IN A SPOIILER*********** I liked the old west theme, but perhaps some of hte GR fans can explain something to me. Why was Mephisto so pissed at the end when Cage says he's going to keep the powers and use them against Mephisto? I thought OK so Cage is now going to go around and fry the souls of all the evil doers he finds and send them to the devil... am I missing something here?
It's because GR refuses to be the devil's puppet. He hates what's beyond his control, and anyone who defies him.
The movie was progressing too quickly in the beginning and didn't give enough info on Johnny Blaze. But I guess that they couldn't put everything in making it way longer than 2 hours. This is definitely not Hulk, Daredevil or Elektra awful, but like it was already said this also isn't as good as Spiderman. A thumbs up none the less.
