So I went paintballing last Saturday for my bachelor party. Good times.

We went out to a lake island that my buddy does maintenance work on to do it. Now you see, I was warned that there was poison ivy all over the island, especially down by the lake shore.

We played "hunt the bachelor", so I had a the bright idea that I would hide down on the beach so nobody could get behind me. I was a little drunk and forgetful.

What did I do? I HID IN A BIG PATCH OF POISON IVY ON MY STOMACH. I had long sleeves on, but they got hiked up to my elbows while I was crawling around. I didn't think anything of it at the time, and I didn't notice anything until the next night before I went to bed when it started to itch a little.

Flash forward to today. I haven't been able to go to work for the past two days because my arms and elbows are covered in gravy-dripping living nightmare. My left arm has swelled to twice it's normal size, and my right elbow won't bend. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the constant oozing. I wake up and I have to PEEL myself off the sheets.

I've been trying every medicine I can think of to make it better, the only thing that seems to help is allergy medication.

Got any good home remedies I can try on my itchy, oozing flesh?

Go to the doctor and get some sort of anti-inflammatory.

I hope you are healed up for your wedding!

A cream containing Witch Hazel and anesthetic would help, but I'm sure you've tried that already.

Just be glad you weren't wearing speedos.

You sound like you are as allergic to it as I am. Go to the Doc, they can give you a hydrocortizone shot, and you will be cleared up in hours. My last story, or "why I hate to mow", I was using the weed eater on my back fence, not knowing it was covered in a mix of poison ivy and oak. Pretty much sprayed the stuff all over me. Within an hour, one side of my face, both arms from short sleeves down, and both legs from the knees down were BRIGHT red and already swelling. I went to the Doc, and he asked how many days it had been.....DAYS???? When I told him and hour and a half, he about pooed a brick. A shot and 2 hours later, I was a little pink and fine. That's the only thing that has worked for me. The time before that, I didn't know about the shot. I tried all the home remedies, and nothing worked. I wound up getting it infected from some of the shit people had told me to do. Wound up at the Doc for antibotics and have scars on my legs from it. That stuff is serious shit, and not to be taken lightly. I'd recommend a trip to the Doc.

    Congrats on the wedding!

Thanks again for the Bumblebee. And reading this, thanks for not inviting me into your house.

This tops my "faceplant a retaining wall three weeks before the wedding" bachelor party story.

Yeah, that was part of the reason. I wasn't too bad then, the next day is when it got really bad.

    Hope you like the BB!

Try to keep it cool and get the shot and cream. The more heat you expose the rash to the more irritated it becomes.

You got red that quick? Wow, you must get it worse then me.

I was thinking about getting that shot, but do you think it will work this far into it? I can already tell I'm going to have a scar on my arm.

That would explain why the hot showers make it worse. Good tip, that - cold showers from here on.

I have a home remedy. LEAVE YOUR HOME AND GO TO THE DOCTOR.

Come on, there are things you can play through and things that need medical attention. It's not a sin to know which is which.

I've gotten it as bad or worse before, and I didn't need a doctor then, just time. At this point, I just want it to go away so I can go back to work. It's sad when you'd rather be at work.

If the doctor can make it go away faster, I'm all over that, but I'm not sure much can really be done at this point other than keeping it clean and dry.

man, I feel bad for you guys. I'm not trying to be a dick, but I work in the env. ed field, and I don't get it. I've even tried rubbing the leaves on myself numerous times, just to be sure. nothing. I also am immune to mosquito bites. I don't get how so many people can have such a bad reaction, and then others like myself get nothing.

well congrats and damn at the same time.

Washing with cold water is best because hot water opens the skin pores and aids in absorption of the oil.

I dunno i use the pink stuff calamine lotion or somethin like that, some people say it doesnt help but it helped to stop the itch for me anyways

I heard somethin about putting some mud on it might help the itching or somethin cold ....

Heh, that happened to my brother once. He had it on his legs, arms and face and still had to go to school. We dubbed him "Rashy". :D

Go to a dermatologist. When I got poison ivy I went to the dermatologists, she gave me some kind of cream but it worked right away. You can only get it with prescription.
