since i got at leat a $120 a month to work with for comics and figures .

i want to put together a season 1 generation 1 transformer figure collection

but i want to do it using the best figUres from the C.H.U.G.R.T.S toy lines and also using figures from the best 3rd party groups as well when it comes to certain figures made and sold by fans for fans on line.

    this is my question

what would be the best way for me to go about doing this?
what modern day figures and 3rd party figures would you use to build a modern day g1 season 1 collection

the only requirements i would use on the matter is that the figure really captures the essence of the character it is menat to represetn and that it has total posability in robot mode.

and at least some minor degree of believable size scale

TF Toy section this should be in. I know that you should definatley buy Generations Wheeljack and Universe Hound if you don't have them.

Get as many of the new Generations stuff on shelves before they're gone for good. For an Arcee I recommend the iGear one, though expensive. Henkei is best for Classics/Universe, but United isn't really too good, unless you want a Tracks or Jazz.

we got anything like a guide here explaining which season 1 /2/3 characters have been given the modern day retro g1 treatment and which ones are still missing?

and also which version of said figure happens to have the better colorscheme paint job wise?

basicly a collectors guide of sorts for a new collector in the online fanbase community to use asa kind of collection buidling guide

The problem with this is that nobody can agree on who "belongs." I happen to love Animated Arcee (with Uuser's head) and ROTF Mindwipe. They're with my classics, I don't have an animated or movie shelf. There's lots of guys like that that some people would include and others wouldn't. Some say PCC Huffer is Huffer. Some say Botcon Huffer is Huffer. Some say there is no classics Huffer. Brawn? Same deal. ROTF has a Brawn that isn't terrible. There's also a Scout from HFTD that looks like Brawn but he's called Firetrap. There's also a Legends Brawn that some people use. Others are still waiting. Some people put Masterpiece seekers and Grimlock in their Classics collection because their alt modes scale better.

Hell, there isn't even a definitive Optimus Prime. Faith Leader? Classics Voyager? Your call.

Some people will flame you just for saying CHUG, insisting that these are four lines not meant to go together.

See what I mean? A thread that attempted to be the definitive list would go down in flames.

What you do is go to TFWiki, read what figures are in which toylines and figure out which ones make sense to you, then supplement that with third party stuff to fill the holes if you can afford it.

I'm not trying to be callous, but honestly you're asking someone to distill every argument we seem to have lately into a correct and definitive list. Not going to happen. Even people who genuinely like each other disagree about what belongs on "the definitive shelf." My answer would be very different than the person who responded after me, and it almost certainly wouldn't be the same as your list.

    Well there's this: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/trans...finitive-list-new-molds-classics-styling.html

IIRC for season 1 Autobots there aren't official non-legends classics versions of Slag, Swoop, Snarl, Sludge, Trailbreaker, Gears, and Brawn. Brawn and Trailbreaker have legends toys.

for season 1 Decepticons, there's no Shockwave and Reflector. Reflector has a 3rd party toy.

Other characters not from season 1 I know don't have toys are most of the Stunticons, Hoist, Blitzwing, Arcee, Sandstorm, Broadside, Sky-Lynx, city/baseformers, most of the season 1/2 cassettes, most of the Protectobots, all of the Technobots, all of the Terrorcons, all of the Predacons, Alpha Trion, the other fembots, the Insecticons, and Sixshot.

Arcee, Springer, Sixshot, the Insecticons, possibly Broadside, possibly the Stunticons, and the cassettes have 3rd party toys currently out or coming out.

Yes, there is that list. That does a good job of telling you what your options are without trying to tell you which to pick.. however it still leaves off many standins from other lines that some would include and others would be horrified to learn that someone else was even considering.

Point is, it's YOUR collection. Easiest way to see what you like is go through pics of peoples collections and galleries like the ones on this site and seibertron, then just make a list.

Well I'm kinda doing the same thing and older classics style figures can get very expensive (I heard cliffjumper was a pegwarmer in 06 and he's on ebay now for 40 to 90 dollars). If you want top quality paintschemes, then I would recommend the japanese figures but they can be MORE expensive. Like someone else mentioned before you should really try to find generations/rts figures that have been released recently because I bet they'r gonna go up in price just like they're classics and universe counterparts(generations thrust was released not to long ago and he's already commanding 30+ dollars)

so my best advice would be to act fast and snatch up any good deales.

For the Decepticons I'd get the MP Seekers and any upcoming MP Megatron v2.0 - then there's the 3rd party MP Soundwave on the way and, until something getter comes along, there's G1 Shockwave.

For the Autobots... MPs of Optimus and Grimlock. Then the Classics (CHUG whatever) cars. I think for the larger cars items like the upcoming iGear Iron Hide/Ratchet may work better. If you want an in-scale Jetfire then the 1/48 Valkyries can be painted/modified to make great MP Jetfires. I just added an autobot symbol to mine et voila!

This is pretty much the kind of set up I'm going for too - but I find most of the Classics to be a bit crappy and "toy like". Alternity Bumbleebee is so much better than the Classics version and I'd kill for a full lineup of the 84 cars in that line. The Classics versions of Hound, Jazz and Wheeljack are great though, especially the Japanese versions of the 1st two.

    Good luck!

This is exactly what I'm doing. Here's my list:

    Autobots:
    - Optimus Prime - iGear's Faith Leader. MP-10 is nice too, but a bit too big for my taste. Plus Faith Leader is much less expensive, though this may change if MP-10 gets a North American release.
    - Grimlock - MP Grimlock (either North American or Japanese release, doesn't matter).
    - Jazz - United.
    - Prowl - Henkei.
    - Hound - Henkei.
    - Mirage - Henkei.
    - Wheeljack - Generations (more cartoon accurate, imo).
    - Sunstreaker - Henkei (still need this one!!!).
    - Sideswipe - Universe (ditto).
    - Bluestreak - Henkei (ditto).
    - Ironhide - upcoming iGear version ("Weapons Specialist").
    - Ratchet - upcoming iGear version ("Weapons Specialist").
    - Huffer - upcoming iGear version ("Rager").
    - Bumblebee - Henkei, or wait and see what iGear does.
    - Cliffjumper - ditto.

Unfortunately, there are currently no options for Trailbreaker, the rest of the Dinobots, Jetfire/Skyfire (yes, I know there is a Classics mold but meh). Can't remember what iGear's plans for the Minibots were off the top of my head, but I imagine they'll end up doing all the Season 1/2 Minibots eventually. Probably Trailbreaker/Hoist too, since that's an obvious hole...

    Decepticons (bit more difficult...):
    - Megatron - no real option at this point. There are talks of a new MP version to be scaled with MP-10, and that'd probably work. iGear's hinted at a scaled down MP version as well, which would be fine by me.
    - Starscream - MP-11 looks pretty good... I'd probably wait until a US release comes around, or go with iGear's "Traitor" as it's less expensive.
    - Skywarp/Thundercracker - either spring for the eventual TakaraTomy release or save a few bucks and go with iGear (especially if you like the cartoon colours). I wouldn't bet on either of these being released in North America. Not saying they won't, just that I wouldn't bet on it.
    - Soundwave - upcoming third party release looks very promising... probably our only option.
    - Cassetticons - Perfect Effect's Frenzy and Rumble look nice, but aren't really cassettes, so... personally, I would just wait on these. Apparently the third party Soundwave mentioned above will be scaled to fit G1 cassettes, which is a bit strange. Maybe just use those, and wait until something better comes along?
    - Shockwave - the company that is planning to release Soundwave and Blaster has hinted at Shockwave. Might be our only option, as well.
    - Reflector - really the only viable option right now is Perfect Effect's set, which is really, really nice, but pretty small. If the scale is a problem for you, I'd just wait.
    - Insecticons - FansProject "ninja" versions, with upcoming G1-style heads/accessories.

    Hope this helps!

If interested in Season 2 stuff, I'd go with the Henkei versions of Smokescreen and Red Alert, United Tracks, Generations Warpath, either United or RTS Grapple, iGear's "Spray" (Seaspray), and iGear's Conehead Seekers, too!

There's a reprolabels set to turn TFTM Ironhide into Trailbreaker. To be honest he looks more like a Trailbreaker/Roadbuster hybrid but he looks cool. Otherwise I recommend painting an Armada Red Alert into Trailbreaker/Hoist.

Interesting... but I still think that we'll get something better down the road.

If iGear's Ironhide and Ratchet turn out nicely and do well, I bet Trailbreaker and Hoist will be their next attempt at deluxe/PP sized Gen 1 characters.

I forgot about Devastator... TFC's Hercules and Maketoys' Giant are the obvious contenders. I'd wait and see which one turns out best, though. I jumped on the Herc bandwagon but am a bit dismayed at the QC problems I'm reading about. :(
