I don't think its a bad idea. Just that I agree that he's probably too obscure of a character to make the cut.

If we're talking obscure Japanese characters for TF3, then I support Guiltar

If they name him something else, like Valuim Chugger, then that would be awesome!

If not, I can see Ebert's review now...

Separates into three insect-like creatures, hmm? 'Insect-like' fits the Bayformers aesthetic, all right.

Knowing Bay, he'll retain the capes. There'll be this scene where the revived Cons appear as mysterious caped figures before throwing their capes off and striking heroic (villainous?) poses. Then the capes all explode in mid-air.

Big villain from Transformers Zone, a one off Japanese OAV.

Mainly characterised from the accompanying manga / story pages which painted him as a demonic creature made of the souls (sparks would fit) of deceased Decepticons.

I personally was thinking of suggesting just calling him "Violen" though I'm sure someone would accuse that of being "uncreative" since it sounds just like "villain".

Nice one! And also bang on the point that I am making.

There's a lot of buried gems of ideas and concepts in Transformers history. What would be nice is for the writers to spot one such gem, like Violen, and make use of the idea behind the character. All new character or an update of the original does not matter much, there's just a lot more depth than Unicron who'd be very hard to do convincingly and pull off as anything other than "we're making an EVEN BIGGER ROBOT this time out."
