I really want them to focus on really random characters. and go back to when spotlights didn't really have anything to do with that plot.

It doesn't seem like IDW plans to any time soon, but I would like Spotlight to return as well. I'd particularly like it to cover so-far-unexplored Bots, Cons, and NAILs in events leading to or taking place during the two current ongoing series.

Right now there aren't any plans for future spotlights, but I'm hoping they might release a few digitally, since Autocracy is supposedly selling well as a digital-only comic. And I agree that spotlights are better when they're not completely connected to the main storyline. Obviously *some* connection is needed, but not like Sideswipe where the spotlight was really just a repurposed issue of the series instead of a true character piece.

i think one of the reluctances would be that they would have to fit these characters into the existing world, and not create and continuity errors. There is a lot to work with, so many things they could explore (metalhawk's backstory, where is thunercracker, grimlock ,etc.) But they have to do it in such a way that it ties into the on going, or at the very least characters remain consistent.

If they do one offs or short run digital in the vein of Spotlights, there will be some work in a sort of administrative fashion to keep the oneshots in line with the on-goings.

I'd love to see some more spotlights, I wouldn't even care if they weren't connected to the main ongoing plots, but character stories.

I'd love to see a digital release of new Spotlights. I think that'd be a good outlet for them to use.

Spotlights were some of the best parts of the IDW stories.

"Go back to.." - I have to call you out there. The first two spotlights were "Shockwave" and "Nightbeat" - both ultimately integral to the main plot in the regular series.

Under Furman, Spotlights were always pretty essential.

So the reverse is your comment is true! I think the later Spotlights had less to do with the main plot e.g. Cliffjumper.

spotlight: Onslaught would be cool. i mean they have spotlight: Drift and he switched to the autobots so why not one who switched to the cons?

So is that "I liked spot light and want them to come back?"
or a "Na I didn't much like spot lights"

Spotlights are part of what kept me away from the IDW comics during that era. Because I got the impression they were essential, but the art teams were all over the place with wildly varying quality from issue to issue, I couldn't tell what order, if any, they were meant to be read in, or how many there were going to be or any easy way to tell if I had missed any from week to week, not keeping up with solicits at the time. They seemed like a headache, so I elected to just skip them and all TF comics in general completely at the time.

If it had been one Spotlight series, numbered #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, etc... with each issue just focusing on a different character -- that, I could have dealt with. Easy to tell reading order, easy to tell if I had missed an issue. But no, they all had to be new #1s in order to try to get those "New #1" sales numbers. Fuck that.

Your thinking Wings of honour (which is a continuity very-loosely based on G! cartoon)
