I seriously doubt anyone on Bay's creative team was even aware of that when they came up with Sector Seven.

    I think that's just a coincidence.

    Weird coincidence though...

But it would be an even weirder thing to reference a decade later.

That's a reach. I really doubt that Michael Bay's creative guys went deep enough into the past to find a throwaway line like that.

Well I dont think it wouldve been that hard to find, if they started doing research they would've only had to turn on beast wars for 1minute to come up with it, or at least just note it down, maybe even forgetting where it came from, personally I think that's quite a coincidence. Not impossible to come up separately but just a little too close to 'on purpose' than by completely accident.

I don't really think that's an homage though. It was a one liner from a TV show on over a decade ago. It's not like this a memorable occurrence in Transformers mythos.

To borrow from the Mythbusters I'm going to say plausible.

In the making of things we have seen there are some people that you could safely say fall well within what we'd call Transformers fans. Not the director, producers, or any of the people higher up the ladder but some of them lower down the ladder know their Transformers stuff.

It's also unclear what Hasbro contributed to the film so perhaps someone at Hasbro suggested the name.

While I lean toward coincidence I just can't totally rule out it being done on purpose.

Yeah, it's rather unlikely that it was a deliberate homage. Both are just "Sector...pick a number less than ten," and both the Beast Wars writers and the Transformers creative team thought of 7.

There's actually a pretty good chance that Sector Seven might've been adapted from Bay's movie The Island (Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci were screenwriters for that movie, too), in which Steve Buscemi's character claims he lives in "Sector 5" of the complex. (I think it's also shown that he works in Sector 6 as well.)

There was a reference to a "Sector Seven" in one of the old Marvel Comics Transformers comics from the early-'80s which I re-read a while back, too.

My understanding, however, was that the Sector Seven of the TF movies was simply a holdover from an earlier treatment of the then-still-in-development first G.I. Joe movie which was at the time still focusing on the Sigma Six variant of that franchise, suggesting a potential crossover in the future.

    :)

"Hull breach in Sector 7! Guidance systems failing!" Cheetor, BEAST WARS.

Well, Orci and Kurtzman DID take some stuff from BEAST WARS: Scorponok, the prehistoric battle, the protoforms scanning alternate forms. So I guess it’s not too big a stretch to say they took the term “Sector 7” from there. It appeared as the very first line of the series, too; I think it’s safe to assume Orci and Kurtzman must have watched some if not all of the show (and maybe revisited it as research for their script) and took some concepts for inspiration.

To vent. You obviously don't understand the concept of a discussion forum.

Under that logic, eagc7 should never post outside of the movie forum.
