So this was a weird project. When I got started I decided to treat it as though I was being hired by Hasbro to design a line of transformers suitable for babies. Simple, soft and squishy with no velcro, buttons or anything hard that could come off and be swallowed. The whole thing stays together in vehicle mode with a loop of elastic I took from a broken hair tie.

It started out with chibi-style proportions inspired by weeformers, but as I got into it I realized the transformation wouldn't work with a head that big, so I compromized with more of a Rescue Bots vibe.

The jet mode doesn't look very good from the back and I couldn't avoid using a little fake kibble here and there, but I'm still pretty proud of how it turned out. I'm already brainstorming ideas for my next one!

That is incredible! You should pitch that to Hasbro. Imagine transforming plushies at Babies R Us!

I KNEW somebody was going to call that out! I almost based it on TFP Starscream instead to avoid it, but I figured G1 would have broader appeal.

Thanks for the kind words, everybody, here are a couple of in-progress photos:

It's needle felted, which is closer to sculpting than sewing. The felt sheets that you can buy are made from piles of loose fibres that are repeatedly stamped down by a big press covered in barbed needles that tangle the fibres together until they lock together into a solid piece.

Needle felting is when you take a single one of those industrial needles and tangle the fibres together by hand. You can buy different coloured wool from knitting stores before they spin it into yarn and use them like you would use different colours of clay. The end result is a single piece of felt that just happens to have a more complex shape than most.

    - Yeah, what they said!

Bravo! Great Form! *We're not worthy, we're not worthy!" This is so awesome... I would love to have something like this for my grandsons available at market... C'mon, fellow Radicons - somebody with some Hasbro connections call in some favors... think of all the Minicons who could use some sniveling evil in their little lives...

    Very nice !

Perhaps if you would use velcro, you could make the legs stick for jet transformation.

I do have an etsy store, but I'd have to streamline my process a lot before I could think about selling these. This one took a week to make, working off and on in the evenings.

Unfortunately, velcro and felt do not play nice together. Felt isn't woven, the fibres are held together by friction. If the hook side of the velcro so much as brushes against it, it can rip the wool apart.

    Yikes!

Yeah, that's a good reason not to use velcro.
