Next? Next they will find a way to charge you $2 per listening of a song, and musicians will not be paid at all.

They're just trying to make as much money off CD's as they can before the market is completely gone.

The 2nd last music CD shop (music world) in my town is finally shutting down this month, CD plus was the 3rd last one to go. The only place you can get CD's now in my town, (other then department stores) is a place called Moon Dance, but im sure it wont be around much longer either. The dude at music world, said most of the music world stores are shutting down, and HMV won't be far behind.

CD's suck, I don't even use the CD player I have anymore, I ripped all my favorites songs off my CD's onto my mp3 player, so they're all in one cozy convenient place, and I just plug the mp3 player straight into my stereo. Then I take it with me when I head out so I can listen to all the same music anywhere. its perfect!

Haven't you heard? The RIAA wants you to buy separate copies for each device you own. Buy a CD for your home stereo, buy a separate digital download for your iPod, buy another CD for your car's CD player...

As much as I loathe the MPAA and some of their slimier practices, this seems to be a case where they are technically correct, but have been misrepresented by file sharing advocates.

Emphasis mine, to show the distinction between what ZP and company are saying the MPAA is claiming and what they actually appear to be claiming. It does not appear that the MPAA is arguing that ripping CDs to MP3 is illegal (although they'd probably love to), they're arguing that ripping and then distributing them publicly is illegal... and it is illegal to do that, whether you think it ought to be or not.

I come and go. Work keeps me busy lately, and most of my infrequent posts are in the games and anime section. Nice to see someone cares or notices :)

Lol, speaking of Lars, the only reason they've allowed Metallica songs in GH and RB is because they now get royalties rather than a flat fee, they made a fucking PRESS RELEASE saying it.

    LOVE MONEY MUCH, DOUCHEBAGS?

Good eyes--the article definitely doesn't call attention to that, but you're right.

I'm not a fan of the RIAA either, but the law's gonna get their back with this one.

I totally missed that part of the article. I thought they were focusing on the conversion to mp3 format. I didn't realize the guy was sharing them as well. Kids... this is why you don't read the internets late at night.

Yeah, I know. :\ That's a major reason you haven't seen me in it.

So much for everyone blaming the Fuzzy for the lack of fun in the GD though, I guess...

Okay placing files in a shared folder on a peer-2-peer network is big no-no these days. But do you really believe that the RIAA should be making these people pay thosands of dollars for this? Even going after teenagers that no way to pay off a lawsuit?

I understand their stance but their tactics are disgusting.

If all the teens are stuck in court, at least this keeps them off my lawn.

Agreed on all counts, but the articles that started this thread are still misleading. Just because a slimebag organization is guilty of several other things doesn't mean it's okay to accuse them of stuff that they're not doing also.
