So today I decided to go to my favorite local Chinese restaurant to bring back home some dinner.
As I was waiting for my food to be ready, I went next door to "When I was a Kid" store. I've mentioned this store before. It's a comic book/collectable toy store with die-cast cars, a few TFs mostly movie stuff, and other great stuff.

Well, just like last time I was there, probably a month or two ago, he told me that everything was half off till the end of the month. Which, he told me the time before that. I had a hunch he'd say that again today. And sure enough, when I walked in, he recognized me, and said the same thing. "Everything's half off till the end of the month."

Well, you said that last month, and the month before. Why not just mark it as such instead of "pretending it's a sale"? That's bullshit!

He STILL had the G1 poster, and he still had 1-4 G1 comic-book set. The comic books were still in their "unopened" package, but I did notice the cover looked sun-faded. I honestly don't know how clean and crisp, and bright there supposed to look, but to me they look sun-faded.

Having said all that, he had not a single Transformer I was interested in, not a single die-cast car I was interested in, but he did have a few cool things that sort of tempted me.

He had two Zoid kits, he had several Alien Vs Predator toys, several Matrix toys including an awesome figure of Neo wearing his all black outfit with the famous dust-coat. He also had that machine-weapon thing that the humans used to fight off the sentinels with. It was a pretty big toy too, probably a foot tall?

Anyway, I kind of chuckled to my self and left without purchasing anything. If he's going to give me this BS every time I walk in there, I don't want to buy anything. I bet I can get better deals on ebay.

The Neo figure was about $45 I think.

Have any of you had this happen? Please, don't pretend it's a sale when its really not.

I live in Australia, the country famous for it's adverts of guys claiming to be crazy in order to sell crap.

We've had Myer try to sell stuff on Discount for a higher price than regular retail. And the rug sellers have a sale every other week, it's practically ripping off those stupid enough to buy shit when they don't have a sale.

So yeah: bottom line is that your store is nothing compared to ours.

in certain stores especially near Chinatown in NYC, the items are permanently 20-60% off (aka, the price is always marked down). The reason is because, after the 20-60% off, their value are just like a few cents below the average price. (or above)

I hate stores like that, they try to make themselves look better when the pricing is clearly crap. Its not a sale if everything is always XX % off for the last few years.

It reminds me of William Shatners Price Lines ad.

"It's only pretending to be a sale."

I only hear that phrase when somebody pours a shit-load of sugar into their coffee and the ratio of coffee/sugar becomes unbalanced! LOL!
So how do you know when it's a true sale?

For that you have to know the market prices for items, or at least be good at ballparking ala "the price is right" :p

I don't want to be the guy who says "Cool story bro" but I really can't think of any other response.

It wasn't meant to be thrilling or anything. I just found it amusing that he says "Everything's half off" every time I go there.

Everytime I walk into Walmart, the greeter says "Hello", so I know where you are coming from.
