So today I finally got around to putting together my city commander set. While it does look cool, it is not exactly a classic styling. It is definately a Magna/Comic book styling.

So while going through the Radicon section yesterday, I came across this guy made by uuser. I really wish that this is what City Commander looked like. I mean it could use a little polish, but there is really not much you can find wrong with this. This is really sweet:

As nice a custom as that is, I prefer the existing City Commander.

I like this better. He looks more poseable than City Commander.

I have no problem with what it is we got for City Commander.

I have no issue with the custom either, but there's no way that FansProject could have sold that thing. uuser basically used the G1 trailer and modded it to slap onto Classics Ultra Magnus. Hasbro would not let FansProject sell something that looks that close to (or is made from) the G1 trailer. That's an instant C&D order.

Yeah, I wouldn't need it exactly like this. Some changes, like the red canopy being lowered or gone. Just something that is similar to this instead of the magna look.

I don't have an issue with the way City Commander looks, it's just that he doesn't fit in all that great with the classics.

Most of the Classics don't fit with themselves in the first place, and modding a G1 trailer onto Magnus wouldn't make him fit in any better. Hell most of G1 was all over the place and hardly fit with eachother.

Since the Classics line is a reimagining of Generation 1, I give it some wiggle room. Likewise, City Commander is a new take on Ultra Magnus.

Monstrous backpack kibble. I'll stick with City Commander.

city commander is cool. it would be interesting if another company made ultra magnus armor. that mod is a good attempt and probably looks good next to universe voyager optimus, universe g1 cars, and rodimus

Nothing FansProject has done really has. They use their own aesthetic and neglect completely what it is Hasbro and Takara have produced, save for having to fit parts onto their products.

Munitioner and Explorer are perfect examples of this, if you were to look at the Combaticons as the team rather than as Bruticus. They made no effort whatsoever for those figures to match the aesthetic of the Energon figures.

Is it just me or I'm really looking at a G1 Ultra Magnus? :lol

Yeah, while this is cool to a certain extent, I would gladly embrace my City Commander still.

I'm happy with the way he looked. In fact, I've even gotten over the fact that his head needs to look more "Magnus." (A minor complaint that I've when he was released but I'm glad I didn't let that opinion stand in the way)

Actually, City Commander is a "classic" styling, that's sort of what makes it work. Instead of being slavishly G1, they made it slightly more hard-angled and futuristic, which is the same kind of aesthetic the original Classics figures (like Prime and Rodimus) have. The later Universe and Generations figures would try to steer the aesthetic back towards the realistic. But for the initial line, City Commander was designed to emulate it.

Right, because Faith Leader and "Replica KOs," direct copies of both new and old HasTak designs, got shut down immediately. Oh wait

Anyway, I like the way this custom looks, though the backpack kibble is a bit much. However, if you're going to try and one-up FansProject, then why bother making Voyage Magnus a requirement. Most G1 fans accept that the armor is the body itself, and that the White Prime was only a necessity for the toy. If someone ever gives us a real Magnus, it should be like the Titanium figure (but, you know, in a larger scale and constructed better)
