Earlier tonight a few of us went over to a buddy's house to watch the season premiers of The Simpsons & Family Guy, and low & behold, he had Transformers playing on his crazy ass huge widescreen TV in full surround sound glory when I walked in. And not just a handycam download - a rip of the official widescreen DVD, complete with the startup menu & all. I'm guessing this is what the regular single disc edition and Disc 1 of the double disc edition looks like since it's pretty basic - chapter selection, audio setup, etc.

The menu consists of an opening shot of the robot eye from all the posters with all sorts of gears & gizmos moving inside it, then transitioning into a rotating pan shot of Prime's forearm and hand holding the Allspark with various moving images of the movie fading in & out around it, backed by the symphonic score of the movie. When you click any of the menu selections, the Allspark starts to shift & transform before displaying the next set of options.

But here's the biggest surprise for me: while the movie obviously looks & sounds great blah blah blah, they DID NOT change Devastator's name back to Brawl. I was positive that the error would have been fixed for the DVD, but evidentially not. Considering the writers, Hasbro and even Bay all acknowledged that it was indeed an oversight mistake, I'm pretty surprised to still see it in the DVD, especially since it's just subtitle text - something that is, I presumed, relatively easy to change. It should be interesting to find out why they left it as-is.

Needless to say, I'm pretty pleased that I have the movie in hand, but am still looking forward to buying the 2-disc edition in a couple of weeks for all the bonus feature stuff and metal tin box (Future Shop version). Just thought I would offer a bit of a limited advance review of what to (and not to) expect from the DVD for anyone anxious to know.

I just finished watching the dvd version tonight too and was surprised they didn't bother to change the Devastator error. Strange. Maybe they'll mention something about it in the commentary.

I have no idea - presumably from wherever it is that people download movies from. I don't personally download movies due to laziness, preference for the official packaged versions and fears of viruses, so I'm not the guy to ask. I just take the odd advanced DVD rip that friends might give me.

Sorry Redline, I wasn't asking where to DL an illegal version. I mistook this for the real deal and was asking how I could purchase a copy. My avatar clearly states how i feel about dvd quality. Bit torrent isn't worth my time. O'well, 20hours 46min until Halo 3 is occupying me for the next month until the HD-DVD release. :)

To me people who download illegal stuff like this is just as bad as scalpers. Just my opinion.

Since this appears to be a rip, there is still the chance the Devastator/Brawl error will be corrected in the retail version. Just guessing.

Oh no, not the "You are eeeeevil for watching/buying pirate DVD" thread.

Looks like a cool beta version. I'm gonna wait for the official 2-discs release. One more month wont kill me. XD

More than likely an early rip like the one I got from a friend of mine.

Brawl's name will probably be fixed for the official release though.

I'm going to assume a ripped copy isn't the same as the DVD release and pretend no one is thinking the actual error was neglected again.

It just makes more sense that way.

This may be off topic, but why all the involvement with Target only to have the special edition "prequel" DVD only at Wal-Mart?

I'm sure Target will have some kind of exclusive as well.

That's pretty cool stuff, I like it when the menus don't look like they were tossed in to finish the disc up. :D

I was trying to search some threads, but this may be quicker. But Omega77, where did you hear that? It will be a DVD prequel? not a comic? Any info will help, thanks!

    where's mah drugs?

Uuhm, okay on-topic. I guess if it's still devastator now, it'll remain so forever.
When's the dvd supposed to be released again?

I don't think it has been fleshed out very well but I believe they will be adding voice and sound effects to IDW's prequel comic. Like a shockwave animation or somthing.

Like I said though, this is just speculation as we haven't heard the specifics yet.
