It's gotta be derived from "picK UP" since he's a truck.
That's the general thought. Or fact, I'm not sure. I realized it maybe a few years ago and I can't believe it took 20 years. Same with Zartan in G.I.Joe, who turns blue in sunlight since he's got a "bizzare tan." Funny how these things strike us years after the fact.
It's fact. It was mentioned in his profile in the old marvel Transformers Universe book.
Didn't know that about Zartan. Sweet.
That was an awesome figure i had that and his swamp skier
The first time I read about Kup, I thought it was pronounced "coupe." It wasn't until I watched the '86 movie that I found out otherwise. It took me even longer to make the connection.
Mind blown. Never even knew.
Dude's lucky he aint part of a combiner.
Actually, Zartan is an anagram of 'Tarzan'
Well done you. Have a cookie.
True! Although I was under the impression that it was a two for one. A related fun fact: Dreadnoks = Ewoks. Or at least the initial idea and name were a plan to cash in on Jedi's success.
It took me a stupid long time to realize that Futurama's Bender is named that not only because he bends stuff, but because o the drinking term "on a bender." I feel particularly dumb that it took 25 years to notice Dorothy Gale from Wizard of Oz. Gale=Strong Wind=Tornado.
I'm basically saying that if anyone feels silly for not knowing the reason for Kup's name, you are still several steps above me on the clueless ladder.
You learn something new everyday.
Believe it or not, Hot Rod is named after a type of car!
I wasn't being facetious, that's how they came up with Zartan's name...
And Rodimus Minor and Hot Rodimus are named after...a desire to stay away from courts.
Arcee is actually named after Royal Crown cola.
Weird. I always assumed a Radio Controlled toy car connotation.
Not trying to accuse you of stealing Acclaimed, but did you get that from tfwiki as shown below?
Yea, he would look like Breacher combined with Seaspray. (I can't unsee that pic now)
Welcome to 1986!
