This sounds silly I know. I've been aware that this isn't G1 but all the same I realised that in the back of my mind they would bring the characters we know to the big screen. I only just realised how they will make up their own charcters and then slap on a name that they feel will suit them regardless if the name fits the past iterration.

I sure many have realised this by now.

    Well done.

Have you never looked at the Transformers toys in a shop before?

Like I said, I subconsciously hope that like let's say Hot Rod is this and he is like Hot Rod but they could make a new character and then just call him Hot Rod for no reason. I never really thought about it before so it's weird that this only just occured to me when I was fully aware that this was happening e.g. with Ironhide etc.

I think it should have read, "I'm sure many have realized this years ago".

QFT. As soon as her name was mentioned in that movie, my mind flashed to all of the Ratchet's throughout Ratchet-history. Then the credits rolled and I saw that is was spelt "Ratched". And then I died a little inside. :(

Make this happen right the f**k now. Can you imagine Jack Nicholson voicing Megatron? Or even Starscream? Oh gosh... that'd be cool to see/hear.

As for the OP, I'm not going to rag on you for this. I understand what you're saying, and surprisingly, based on a lot of people's comments about characters in the live-action films, it appears that A LOT of people still don't understand this concept. Yes, many claim to have grasped this concept since 2007, but from what I see, many still don't. They beg and plead and holler about how characters don't look like they did in G1 ("That's not Wheeljack!", "What'd they do to Jetfire?", "Why are they making new characters?!?", etc.), or that they just slap names on them however they want. But what says that the movies have to resemble - in any way - G1? What about Armada? RID? Even Beast Wars? When news of a live-action Transformers film came out, I wasn't pacing the floor trying to figure out what TV series they were going to try and "copy". No. I just thought that they were going to do a movie about the general history of this 25+ year franchise, and try to generally cover as much as they could. Not one particular series, but kind of like all of them combined into a big soup that is just called "Transformers". Not "Generation One", not "Beast Wars", not "RID". Just "Transformers". This is its OWN series (more or less). This is Michael Bay's live-action Transformers trilogy. But this has been discussed to death already. I'm glad that this has dawned on you. :)

For the first film, the writers made it clear in a webcast that the characters they chose were based on G1. Everyone forgets that.

The second one was such a random mess, you can't really apply anything to it.

just like G1 (so many goddamn errors in that cartoon)

    as far as i'm concerned
movie transformers - manly side of transformers (they kill the enemy to keep it out of their way instead of putting them in a cell and waste time on them)
