The trip started last Saturday at 11:00 pm, we were in Daytona (my home town) by sunday afternoon, then we went on to Kissimmee to spend the night.

We stayed in Disney's Port Orleans Riverside resort and stayed for 4 days, went to all the parks except Epcot and generally had a great time!

I took 2 gigabytes worth of pics, here are just a few highlights: (clickable thumbnails)

We started our vacation in Daytona:

My youngest son, Ben, was totally starstruck upon meeting Lightning McQueen, I seriously think he was in shock.

Keep in mind this was for a family of 6: about $2500 for the resort/park tickets and meals (I bought the Dining Plan it's worth it) then another $400 on a large rental van, about $200 on gas, about $150 for hotels outside the park (the day before and the day after our reservations for the Disney resort) then another 2 or 3 hundred in the gift shops.

For a family of 6 that price doesn't seem bad at all... I wish I could go on vacation, but my dad (having seniority where he works) refuses to go anywhere. Fun vacations are the best vacations.

Looks like you guys had a ball :)  excellent! I'll never forget when I got to go as a kid... twice, and loved every minute of both trips, they weren't long enough.

I went to Disney Land once, and it's no where as impressive as I thought, I heard that Disney World is the place to be. DC, how did you wrangle 4 kids in the happiest place on earth?

My wife helped a lot, we actually had a really good time after we figured out how everything "works" we were a little overwhelmed our first day and didn't do much, but by our 2nd day everything went very smoothly.

I went to Disney Land/World (I can't remember what it was called) - the one in L.A. This was in early November 2001 so it was very empty as no one was traveling then. It was pretty neato.

Unrelated, I was kinda hoping to see some photos of your wife. I am a sad and lonely man.

My dad has a 'retirement' job at Disney World to keep him busy 2 days a week, so I've been about a dozen times- but the first trip was the best. For those planning to go, do your homework. There's too much to do it all on one trip, so pick what you want to do most, and figure out how you're going to fit it in and how much you're going to spend. It's too easy to go overboard. I recommend the 'Unofficial Guide to Disney,' as it has quite a few tips and tricks. Also, while staying at a Disney resort may seem more expensive; the perks are pretty good, and you spends tons less on parking and gas. Disney transportation has buses, boats, or monorails from each hotel to get you to any other Disney destination, so you don't have to worry about how you're getting there, where you parked, or how much parking is going to cost. If the kids are tired, knowing you can hop back on the bus and grab a quick nap back at the hotel is a relief.

Anyway, I'm a big fan of how Disney runs Disney World, and will happily pass on any other advice if wanted.

    -Tony!

Great to see that you had a good time there. :thumb

And I see you went to Daytona. Did you check out Daytona U.S.A.?
