OK i so all i had was Tantrum and i was trying to scoop up some of the other preds and i bought a lot on ebay with divebomb, rampage, and tantrum. the three that i just got have no metal in them at all. are these reissues and i got jipped? or did they make versions that had no metal? i think i got jipped .....
I cant tell you if you got jipped with out knowing how much you payed but there were some G1 releases of the G1 Preds that had no Di-cast metal in them.
There are many many 1986 TF's that come in all plastic or, metal (chest or feet usually) parts versions. The Predacons are one of them. Also Takara always reissues the metal parts version. What you got are vintage through and through.
Vintage all the way. you are 100% guaranteed that they are since they are all plastic. the takara reissues are metal and Vintage came in both metal and plastic. My vintage set is plastic.
There is a few bootleg sets out there, but they are relatively easy to tell apart, 3 of the 5 are white and black where the other two are normal colours. they are the all plastic version and slighly smaller and again easy to tell the differnece if you compare them to a real pred.
I just got the reissued set and mine are die cast. Weighs a bloody ton, never realised how big predacons were by comparison to the composite parts of the other gestalts. As for variants, my set was single-taped and I had heard that these all had to be re-sealed (double-taped)? I was worried something was going to be missing, lol.
I bought Razorclaw in Normandy in May ’88. He's a fairly plastic boy. Sounds to me like you bought the real thing. Here's a picture of a reissue (not sure what date), but it looks exactly like my 1988 model – apart from the Takara card: http://seibertron.com/toys/fullsize.php?id=426&size=1&image=16
Does it say China or Japan inside the leg? If it says China, most likely some unscrupulous seller swapped the metal out so your plastic is from the originals. Then they resold the originals w/ metal parts to someone else.
You can look up the differences between the 80's plastic and metal versions on this page......... http://www.geocities.com/futuristgroup/vgestault.html
