    I have a sheet of paper that has pressure marks from a letter that someone wrote on a piece of paper that is top of the one I have. I will try to explain better, If you are writing a letter on one sheet of paper and you look at the sheet of paper below it has intentions of what was on the top sheet. I need to find away to reveal what the words say. I have tried lightly tracing the paper with pencil but still cant make out the words. If anyone has suggestions please let me know.

    Hmm you can use those tiny metal shavings (dunno what it's called in english) and apply them on the paper and thereafter take a magnet move it around just a bit away beneath the paper and then the metal shavings will lay in the pressure marks so you should be able to read it

    I was going to suggest rubbing over it with a pencil lightly, but it appears you've already tried that. Maybe run it through a copier with the darkness all the way to the max?

    when you used the pencil, which side did you getly sketch over? It needs to be the reverse of the paper so that the pencil picks up on the raised bits, not the identations.

    Or the other method I used was to get some charcoal, smear it all over a swab of cotton wool and lightly run that over the back of the paper to see what shows up.

    You cant just walk in Forensics and say "hey I need this done". Its not a part of anything official I'm just trying to catch a small time dealer.

    Holy crap, do you like kick ass and bust skulls on the side as well? Like vigilante style? That's pretty awesome.

    Would you sell me the TV rights?

    SRS suggestion: Have you tried scanning the document and planning around with it in photoshop? I have no idea if this would work.

    ^ might work if you scan it at high enough res and pissball around with the contrast.

    a charcoal stick might work. Go to an art supply store and ask them for stuff for etchings.

    Failing that, I suppose you could try darkening the areas you KNOW there are pressure marks, and then seeing if you can interpolate the rest of it by interpolation of each individual letter, knowing that they'll have to make some semblance of sense.

    I would try this as well. Just be sure you use a very, very light touch on the paper.

    Prowl, if you were to post the note if you find out what it says, could you get into trouble for that, or make the note inadmissible? I'd hate for you to blow a case because of us.

    i'm excited to see what happens. any bets on what it is? $10 says it's something along the lines of:
    Dave;

    Had to take Sarah and Jesse to soccer practice early. Supper is in the fridge, just heat it up in the microwave. Also, I need the car at 11 to sell some drugs.

    Love, Jane

    Ooh that sounds fun. Getting your forensics on! I second both the charcoal and Photoshop ideas.
