was cleaning the shelves and came to my RiD Brothers and on a quest in futility i tried to convert them from bot to alt mode.
Their Kibble is pure f-in murder and they are like the Rubik's of the TF toys.
I honestly don't know how kids liked them.

they have a cool bot and alt mode, but the TF process is terrible.

anybody else not like em so much?

If it's been a while since you've handled them, yeah, they are overengineered. I get the same way with Alternators. Except Alts have less interesting transformations. With the Car Bros, the asymmetry adds interest to the transform.

You should get yourself some Beast Wars Neo. :lol

lol, I remember when I first got X-Brawn (this was back when I was in 8th grade) I thought the transformation was very complex. Side Burn was the biggest pain in the ass, and one of the most difficult transformers I had ever transformed at that point.

I can transform them with ease nowadays though =]

(some of the 2007 movie figures give me the most trouble)

I still like Prowl. I tolerate Side Burn's looks, but hate the transformation design (too much moving stuff for the sole purpose of getting it out of the way of something else). X-Brawn is debatably the least complex to transform, but has the most wonked-out proportion. (all legs and no upper body, save for that one arm)

It is the same designer, so it's not surprising. I think he even did Big Convoy.

Car Brothers could easily be reissued as ROTF deluxes. Same style.

    Random Fact:

The designer who engineered the Car Brothers from CAR ROBOTS/ROBOTS IN DISGUISE also did the engineering for a large portion of the BINALTECH/ALTERNATORS, hence the similar frustration.

Yeah, they're a bit complex if you haven't picked them up in awhile. Prowl and X-Brawn are alright and I can get them to work once I remember what I'm doing with them, but I hate Side Burn's transformation... too much crap moving around just to get it out of the way of something else. I'm not sure how the kiddie's dealt with this as I was 20 at the time when I first got him and still became irritated.

On a side note... I find myself irritated with some of the BW Neo guys too... particularly I hate to transform Big Convoy/Universe 1.0 Nemesis Prime as I can never get his freakin' shell to align itself properly without spending a good while at it.

Sideburn (speedbreaker) is the easiest of the three for me. Its just getting the shield lined up and folding a wheel into his chest reallly. What frustrates me is getting the front section on prowl (mach alert) to line up so the wheels roll freely.

Um, i got X brawn, prowl and Sideburn long ago, never had any problem with Prowl or X Brawn. Sideburn was the only annoying one. Too much random kibble that has to get out of the way so something else can get out of the way of yet another thing...

I like them. Sure, they're a little fiddly, but I liked that. we've been sorely missing challenging TF toys of late. Binaltech perhaps started taking the complexity a little too far - Grimlock is by far the one I struggle the most with. Once you get in the swing of playing with the RiD figures, they're pretty easy to TF with some speed. This lack of complexity one of the reasons I found it difficult to enjoy what followed. Although the simplicity of armada was clearly aimed at the target audience: kids which is a good thing as they are playthings at the end of the day.

Looks like I'm in a minority, I love them! Sold them all a while back, and been meaning to pick them up again.

Well, I love X-Brawn and Prowl. I tolerate Sideburn!

X-Brawn is by far one of my favorite transformers. I just love his transformation and his alt. mode. Rubber tires make everything better then they already are.
