Before this thread gets fuzzied (whoa, Deja Vu), just hear me out.

Today, when I woke up to get ready for school, my mom came into my room, saying school's been cancelled. At first, I thought she was just lying to me, and I even looked out the window. There was some snow, but not enough to get school cancelled. I turned on the TV, and to my surprise, school WAS cancelled. All the schools in Ohio were cancelled for today. Turns out that the weather was at subzero temperatures (temps were in the single digits, not in the 10s, folks). So, due to FREEZING temperatures (trust me, it was ICE COLD outside), I had no school today. And, to make things even weirder, I have no school tomorrow, still due to the freezing temperatures. They're already broadcasting the schools that will be closed on all the local TV channels. I might even get some snow in the mix.

It's times like this that Ohio weather is just AWESOME, and bizarre at the same time. :D  Anyone else here have school cancelled because of the freezing temps here in the midwest?

I thik they've been saying that windchill is putting the temperature at around 20 below. I'm not surprised they cancelled. It doesn't take long in those temps to get frostbite or hypothermia.

That sounds so lame. I remember in the mid 90s our then governor "decided" to cancel all school across the state, primary and college. I was pissed off about it. It was not dangerous to go to school, and I thought that the Governor abused his powers. It made me angry that I voted for that moron.

When I was in jr. high or so we got a few days off for cold weather. But that was when the actual temps were like 5 to 10 below, and with high winds putting the wind chill between 40 and 60 below. We wouldn't have gotten off for 20 below wind chill. Of course now, they close the schools down for anything. Flurries? Closed. Drizzle? Closed. Temps below 15? Closed. It's really pathetic how often they close schools now. We could have had 6" of snow and school wouldn't even be delayed an hour or 2. Now, if there is a dusting, there's probably an 80% chance they'll close.

School closing started happening less and less during my HS years. One time school was canceled but it was not announced before I left so I didn't find out until I got to the door.

I think the high today was -4. With the windchill, it was at least -30.

It was something like -30 with windchill here in Cleveland, too. Schools were all cancelled... but yet they still had the kids come in for Basketball practice. Priorities a little off, eh?

Same here. I have to push carts at my job, bringen'em in from the parking lot in subzero temperatures. No one ever lets me stay home...

Snow days rule. Good time to get sick so you can get more days off

I wasted them half the time by going back to sleep and waking up around the time the bus would've dropped me off.

:lol :lol :lol  Same happens for me, but I barely do anything other than drink coffee and post here until around 1, when I finally take a shower and get dressed. :p

Well, judging by how fast the snow's falling and sticking to the ground, I'd say I might have school cancelled again tomorrow, but I highly doubt it. Hell, we already have an "official" two-hour delay that's set for tomorrow. But every couple months, students at my high school are given a two-hour delay just so we can catch up on our sleep.
