My girlfriend and I are moving in together next month and we both wanted a dog. I haven't had a dog since I was 13 years old and I lived in the country. But since moving away for college, I've always had apartments, dorms, or condos where dogs weren't allowed. Now that I'll be in my girlfriend's house, I can have a running buddy! Meet Vito. He's 10 months old, a purebred English Setter. English Setters are bred as hunting dogs, ideal pointers for pheasant and grouse. His energy is very high, he will definitely be able to keep up with me in my marathon training! Vito was part of a breeding program and didn't have some of the desired traits for his breed, so he needed to "disappear." He's now in the Witness Protection Program, thus the "Godfather II" inspired name. His original name is classified. Vito loves his mom's new big yard, and he loved the fresh March snow we just got! He tells us it's yummy, but cold on his nose! He's never seen "A Christmas Story" so we had to be careful about letting him lick the icicles off of my grill. This is Panther, and he's less than impressed. I imagine Ravage had that same look on his face when Soundwave brought home new tapes. Toby's also annoyed by this new development. He is refusing to finish preparing my taxes in protest. But Vito and I are still going to be good friends!
Freaking adorable. Good for you guys on the dog and moving in together. That's a big step. I'm going to teach Vito some fucked up trick, because that' how I roll.
I was in a similar position to you about two years ago, when I got a "high energy" dog from the shelter in a Jack Russell terrier. That dog never stops. Forget jogging with him, we take him on hour long bike rides (where he runs next to the bike), and that barely affects him. For your sake, I hope your pup is a little less energetic. Cute dog, though. Congrats on getting a new best friend!
Hehe, I was thinking the same. When I saw the photos I thought Vito was an older dog. ^^ No offense. Quick question: your cats are used to be with dogs? Because I got a new pup in house and my cat gets close to her and tries to hit her . Hope that doesnt happen with yours.
Vito looks like an aweseome pup. Since my first dog growing up was a black lab I've always thought that bird dogs make the best pets.
Cute dog. at the cats. Vito is my cousins name BTW, my uncle had the same inspiration when he named him.
I'm all set for him. We've got bikes, I have Rollerblades, and of course my marathon training can get upwards of 20 miles the month before the race. If he's got 4 hours of running in him I'll be very impressed! Yeah, he's pretty much full-grown. He was born May 5, 2007 and he's now around 50 pounds. I've had retrievers in the past and they are similar to setters in that they are fully-grown within a year. Physically anyway. Vito's still full of puppy curiosity and playfulness. My GF has three cats that Vito's met and one of them has swatted Vito on the butt, but that's because he had cornered another cat and everybody was spooked. Vito wasn't aggressive, just curious. Generally, he's just pointing at them as he does with birds or rabbits. He has yet to meet my two cats I have pictured as they are still at my apartment. They've both lived with dogs before I had them and are fixed males, mellow dudes generally. But by those photos, they know what's coming.
Congratulations. When I read the title, I was going to ask how the cats were reacting to the dog, but your first post answered the question. Also congrats on moving in with the GF. Does she live in Minneapolis also?
Cute! I recently "inherited" my girlfriends dogs since we just moved in together. Always wanted a dog and now I have two to play with. Congrats bud!
