I studied art in college......when you draw a human head, you draw an oval, the eyes and ears are drawn in the exact middle part of the oval...THEN the arstist included the robot aspect....the helmet is the hair....and the bottom of the face is similar to the autobot symbol...

In a nutshell...the artists started with an oval face...which was mistake #1! Prime has always had a square face....I guess they like humans better than robots....hopefully this changes....

It doesn't look to me like that's what's happened. Besides, what you're describing is a very elementary technique that a designer at ILM wouldn't be using. When sketching a figure in 3D, you start by drawing 3D structures. Even if they did use the "eyes in the center of an oval" technique, Prime's classic look still has a very human facial structure with the rest of the head built around it, so that still wouldn't explain Prime's face being "long".

I not gonna argue, prime has NEVER had an oval face, Bay liked this head....someone drew it from a human standpoint, and bay liked it...thus it was released...or leaked, I am sure at least 1 artist started drawing prime from the elemetary standpoint....

You never SEE Prime's head without a helmet and a face plate obscuring it.

Anyway, what they did is they added a chinstrap to the helmet (Prime's conventional design doesn't have that extra blue bit at the bottom) and made the top ridge of the faceplate point down instead of up. The latter draws attention go the length of his face, and the former physically augments the length of his face. The "chin strap" bit is obscured in the 3-D render on the poster image we saw recently, and as a result his face didn't look long in that image.

Here I've stretched his mask upward and erased the strap under his chin. I also lit the eyes yellow like the poster image.

If I saw a person with a face like that I'd crap my pants. I dont think its the long face so much as the low mouth and the way the eyes are drawn thats messing it up. Someone should try keeping the face exactly the same but coloring the eyes solid blue or yellow, or at least changing them to have a different expression

I really wasn't trying to "fix" him so much as I was just trying to demonstrate that his face isn't actually longer than usual. He's just got a weird piece of armor attached to his chin. Take it away and point the mask up instead of down, and you've got something very much like we're used to.

Sorry, but again I disagree....prime's head is because of humanoid asspect's.

Their is an oval like shape to his head, and he is "human" enough for a mouth.

Which he has always had underneath his faceplate.

So the new prime I respect because that's a huminoid, no dought.

Dude, in the edited picture I put up, I did not move the bottom of Prime's face plate at all. I just stretched the top of it toward his eyes and erased all the crap that they added below the face plate. BOOM, he looks normal. The shape of his face is not the problem.

That's picture is totaly awesome. really the only problem with the face is it seems that his chin is to long and his eyes and cheeks are to low.

This isnt a officially, finish prime face any way's guy's.

So unless you want to sit here and complain about his face being

to long, then go ahead.....but it seems quite pointless to argue

about a non-oked peice of concept for the movie.

That's not his chin. It's an extra segment they added to the helmet for some reason that I can't fathom. It makes his face look long, but it isn't.
