Having just rewatched the movie trilogy, I just had an epiphany: I think if Michael Bay had the choice, he would omit the Autobots from the movies altogether and just have the military battling Decepticons.

Honestly, I just couldn't seem to fathom why the Autobots continually get cheated out of screen-time. It made sense in the first one. But, for 2 and 3, there was no excuse. Budget was not the issue. It just wasn't. Look at Avatar. That entire film is photo-realistic CGI.

Then it dawned on me: I don't think Bay likes the idea of having "good robots" in the movie. Maybe he thinks they get in the way. Maybe Hasbro's forcing him to include them, because it's Transformers and Autobots are mandatory. So, Bay gives them just enough presence to prevent them from being non-existent.

That's all I can figure. Any other director would have followed the 'bots and characterized them, giving them backstory and motives. But, not Bay. And I don't think it's because he lacks the talent. He just doesn't want to.

Bay Doesn't care about Robot People.


The only Autobots Bay cares about are obviously Optimus, Bumblee and Sentinel Prime.

 

Because overpowering them makes for awesome action sequences.

He doesn't hate them as action set-pieces, just as characters...

 

Complete and utter agreement from me, especially on this bit:

The way the military are capable of going through the Cons like knives through hot butter makes the Autobots' presence utterly superfluous.

 

If Bay had hiis own way he'd make it about a horny teenager, in the army, Shooting tin foil armoured Monsters but Hasbro intervened.

It does seem to be that way, some of the time.

I have to admit, this made me laugh. It's true.

I love the movieverse, I really do. I'm even a fan of Bay and his work, but I have to admit that all of these quoted points are valid.

And I can definitely see why people might think he hates the Autobots. Especially when the military is his main focus and source of heroes.

Can you people just let it go? I've seen this discussion like 20 times today.
Michael Bay does what ever he wants to do, and there's nothing you can do about it.
Heck if I was him and I'd see this discussion I'd kill all the autobots and have the humans defeat the cons just to see you guys get mad.

Funny, because the Movie Autobots have to be the most skilled and successful of any series.

 

ummm..... i with bay i hate the autobots!!! the good guys always win! plus the decepticons allways get sweet vehicals alt mode and weapons!

 

Consider, however, the quality (or the lack of such) of the opposition they face.

In the other series ,excluding prime, the bots either have bad aiming or they just grab each others arms, have some boring chat, and push each other off and the fight ends.
