The toy has been graded against the AFA scale and scored high marks. All your questions can probably be answered here:

Ah yes, the total snow job that is the AFA graders....giving people the excuse they've always wanted to gouge the living crap out of their prices! :thumb

Yeah, I was thinking it had something to do with the box being all intact and whatnot...but dang...

See, I dunno. I like the Mustang mold, but I couldn't see paying $225 for a Wheeljack. He's cool, but dang.

I'm mainly chalking this up to him seeing if someone'll actually go for that price.

Heh. Camshaft. I saw the guy once, and wasn't interested, so I passed. Same deal with Swerve, actually.

Wheeljack, though, he wasn't as rare, I don't think. I just dunno if any Alt's worth that much, really. Of course, I'm not a mint-in-box kind of guy, myself. And those red boxes are hard to keep mint.

The Wheeljack I bought at Argos 2 days ago for £20 looks exactly like that. It's box was perfect. Maybe I should buy another and AFA grade it to sell on ebay.

Ah no, hang on a minute, I forgot, I'm not a scammer who makes a living out of selling things for more than they are worth.

    Nevermind.

the toy is worth as much as someone is willing to pay. once it does get a grade on it(that high) like it or not, the price jumps up. and I dont believe this guy is a scammer, people have a choice to buy or not buy something. he just set his price where he thought it should be, no harm in that. i dont believe in grading unless something is extremely rare or out of this world mint, and when I turn around and sell it for 100 or 1000 more(and I have), I dont feel like a scammer. And if I was this guy, I wouldnt feel the least bit bad. its not like he owes you or anyone anything.

It just doesn't seem ethical to try and sell something for such a mark-up when you can walk into a shop today and buy it in exactly the same condition for retail price.

It's a different matter when it's something old, rare & mint all at the same time, that is worth the mark-up.

And things are often worth a lot less than someone will pay for them, IMO, if looked at objectively.

Not having a go, BTW :thumb , I can appreciate your points, just never seen an AFA graded toy that is available at retail before....

AFA is a joke, don't support them.

Do you guys think buying cheap AFA stuff and smashing it open would be considered helping or hurting them?

nobody's bit yet. Therefore the Wheeljack is NOT worth $225.

I guess it's just the difference between US and UK, here you can get Red Box Wheeljack and Bubble Optimus Prime along with the new Ravage from Argos.

We get them years after everyone else, except for Ravage of course.

I have no love for AFA, but no one makes me buy them and if they make some fans happy, right on.
