After seeing the cleaned up MP Starscream wit a blue nose cone I decided to do it too.

I was surprised they painted over his nose, not only is it blue, but it's beautiful sparky deep blue, and the only part on the figure molded in that color.

Anyway, as for what I did different, I left some of the silver on the engine covers after seeing a few pics of real jets where it was silver back there:

I also didn't do him "perfectly" clean, I left him slightly used looking, I like that he looks weathered.

and, one last shot just for the hell of it!

91% isopropyl, shop towels and lots of elbow grease.

The silver on the afterburners don't rub off though right?

I don't see the appeal in the blue nose cone, but to each his own.

What I did was dampen square shaped bits of the shop towels in isopropyl (these are paper shop towels) and lay them over the parts of the silver paint I wanted to take off and leave it sit for about 5 min, after that I carefully scrubbed off the paint with dry shop towels.

The afterburners look to be molded in black or dark gray and have some silver airbrushed onto them, so you need to be careful when working to remove the other paint.

    EDIT

I just realized, the hands are the other part of the mold that are molded in blue!!!

Is that the same thing you did to the nosecone? Because I feel like I'm about to break the damn thing and I'm not seeing any results

I personally love the blue nosecone. The appeal for myself, among others is that it just adds another nod to the original toy. Plus there just isn't enough blue highlights in my opinoin. :D

Yes, but I scrubbed with damp towels on the nose cone and it took forever.

Don't scrub hard, take it easy. Remember, you are not trying to force the paint off, you are trying to work the isopropyl into the paint to soften it enough to remove it,

im with cata, i can see why they covered up the blue nosecone, it already looks unrealistic enough with the red and white color scheme; the prominent nosecone makes it even more so. i guess the powers that be thought it was overkill hence the takara one also being covered up.

    its noseconegate!

also starscream is actually doing the grimlock_13. its a drum related hand signal.
