I found a tortoise in my back yard. Turned out to be an alien robot. Who knew? Jk. I found a young desert tortoise waddling through my backyard today. Its left pectoral shell area is cracked, but seems to be healing. The little guy is active and alert, and seems to eat fine. I think somebody tossed him back there, but I don't really care to talk to any of my neighbors. I'm gonna try to give him to a wildlife rehab center (I live in the Chihuahua desert, so they damned well better take this tortoise). I don't have time to take care of it myself. Anyone have any suggestions? I've given him lettuce to eat, and a little dish of water. I'm keeping him in my garage, with the gate held open about 8 inches, just to keep it ventilated. UPDATE: I gave the little guy to the rehab center. All's well.
Misleading thread title angers Deltaprime! (jk) I really don't know much about tortoise care though. Maybe make sure he has plenty of water and handle his shell with care. That's all I got.
Why don't you buy him a kiddie pool to swim around in? Thats what my friends girlfriend did when she found a turtle.
Those kiddie pools are only around 7-8$ , plus a few on the water bill. When it dies ( or runs away ahaha hahah hhahahaha) you can sit in it and drink beer
