What is the deal with the transformations in Beast Machines? It's not a traditional transformation, but what is it? Morphing? This light comes over them and their bodies change dramatically, I don't understand exactly what kind of transformatiion it is.

    Thoughts?

Strictly animation decision, I'm not a fan of it, but it got the point across.

I prefer to think that they actually transforn like the rest of the transformers, or like they did in Beast Wars. If the toys can do it, so can they.

One of the more stupid moments from the Beast Era, I say that as somebody that loved Beast Wars too.

Primal's Maximals had to relearn how to transform without the aid of computers. The Oracle had turned them into organic and techological hybrids, making the old "Maximize!" command code useless. So it was called transforming, but it really ended up as morphing. The Vehicons were the only ones to really transform.

So when they were able to focus and control the beast mode, they could transform. But as soon as they lost focus, back to beast mode they went. Over time they later drop that line when they transformed.

It's stupid is what it is.

It's one of my biggest issues with it. I like my transforming robots to transform. These weren't robots and they didn't transform, the morphed.

Exactly! In my mind, they will alwys transform transform. Not Morphform, or whatever it would be called.
Parts move and whatever they bhave to, but they do not morph.

I'm glad they did away with saying that relatively early in the show.

Yeah, I know. But what I'm asking is what sort of transformation is it, and also, what's your opinion.

Sometimes I wonder if whatever the Oracle wasn't just trolling Primal.

Oracle: And when you transform, you must say, "I am transformed"

    Primal: Ok

    Oracle: *snickers*

    Primal: Did you just laugh?

Oracle:...no...of course not. Now go out there and roll out.

It's a mantra, to help them achieve the mental clarity to shift their very physical body into another form.

Also, how do their bodies work? I remember the original Beast Wars referenced organic musculature?

See, I can believe robots transforming, and I can even believe organic shapeshifters, but semi organic robots changing form is like me turning into a ceiling fan made of arms and legs. It's just not conceivable sans magic.

They're "technorganic" in beast machines, which I guess means a cybernetic composite, probably organic musculature and shielding over a robotic skeletal system, or maybe an organic circulatory and nervous system and skeleton with mechanical augmentation. I don't know, honestly. In Beast Wars, by comparison, I think they were mechanical life forms with a shell composed of organic material, sort of like in Terminator.

I think the point of the "I am Transformed" sequences was to show transformation coming from within, in sort of a metaphorical and semi-spiritual metaphor.

The top bit of your post is what I think about the Techno-organic-ness. Doesn't work well with the transformtion ,wonder why they did that.

Or sans alien biology. Just because they were mostly organic doesn't mean they're beholden to anatomical properties as we know them.

This is true, but even then, I, a watcher of Star Trek, the foremost purveyor of the "life exists quite outside our definition" dogma, still have a hard time personally conceptualizing how Bonobo the Ape can turn into a truck without molecular reorganization.

Did you watch a different Beast Machines from me? I don't remember any apes turning into trucks. Granted it's been a while.

Nah, it was just a generalization. If you want to flatter my intelligence, you can say it's a reference to Optimus Primal's transformation into a truck in Transtech.
